Club Taboo - Montreal Twinks

I haven't heard anything new lately about club Taboo. Any fresh meat? Is the "smoke smell" completely gone?

 

Also, what is the best (wealthy) suburb within 30 minutes of Montreal?

On Question #2, I think Westmount continues to lead the pack. That's where the Bronfmans and the Molsons live as well as former PM Brian Mulroney and Quebec Premier Jean Charest. Westmount, at one time, was the wealthiest community in all of Canada but now shares that title with West Vancouver.

Westmount was the wealthiest suburb of Montreal during the 20th century but in the 19th century, the "Golden Mile", that area of Montreal between Cote-de-Neiges (Westmount's eastern boundary) and McGill University, was the wealthiest real-estate in all of Canada and second only to New York's Manhatten. The mansions on Sherbrooke Street and up the mountainside rivaled anything you would find on Fifth Avenue at that time and the people who lived there owned railways, power utilities, banks and insurance companies etc etc. Many had British titles and when they travelled, they did so in their own private railway cars or yachts with a good number of servants in tow.

 

Most of the mansions are either gone (replaced by huge apartment buildings or office buildings) or have become hospitals (the Neurological Institute) or faculties of McGill University. A number were also torn down to permit the extension of Wilder Penfield Blvd.

 

The coming of income tax during the First World War and the imposition of huge estate taxes arguably sounded the death knell for this life style and the Depression finished it off. Westmount became the refuge for the remaining families but they lived on a far less grand scale than their forbears other than a few who hung onto their companies which prospered in the 20th century such as the Molsons and the Bronfmans.
