I actually like your choices as I wouldn't mind it seeing come out that way....but...

As much as I did NOT like "A Beautiful Mind"....I think it may win some of the biggies...

Wouldn't surprise me to see Russell Crowe win two in a row...

I would not be surprised to see this win best Picture and Ron Howard get best Director...

I agree with you on Nicole Kidman, although a friend of mine swears it will go to Sissy Spacek for "In The Bedroom" - a movie I have yet to see...

Hope you win the 200 bucks...

Sorry, Rush, I think you're 0 for 4. It's a tough year to call, though.

I'd try:

1. Beautiful Mind (Hollywood loves disease movies)

2. Ron Howard (Hollywood loves Opie and wants to give him an oscar)

3. Halle Berry (Hollywood needs a black winner--and she deserves it!)

4. Russell Crowe (A brilliant performance--period)

The Best Actress category is a tough one this time around.

Hollywood loves a comeback (Sissy Spacek) but they'd like an african-american winner (Halle Berry) and they'd also love to give Nicole Kidman props (and she performed WAY above her abilities in that movie!).

This just might be Marissa Tomei's year just because nobody wants to vote the ageist, racist, or political vote. :+

If I was betting, I'd bet on Kidman. But it isn't a bet I'm gonna place anywhere.

An emphatic, NO, hun! I think you're completely off with a slight chance of Mr. Washington's possibility of receiving this coveted award--although he has one for supporting actor.

Raffy, I find your choices to be quite, quite realistic. I think Hollywood needs an overall when it comes to honoring "talent of color" period, and I do hope Ms. Berry takes the GOLD!

Deej, you are so friggin funny and right on the mark... If Nicole wins it will be because Hollywood wants to get even with the Scientology hide-the-fag crowd.

I love Sissy. My vote goes to Halle because they HAVE to give a black person a biggie and they can't give it to Denzel - It has to go to Russell Crowe. There has been no better performance from an actor since Tom Hanks' "Forrest Gump." As much as I dislike Crowe's public persona, I was mesmerized by his performance and if he doesn't win, I am resigning the Academy.

Denzel Washington deserved it long ago - didn't he win for Glory?

Director - Ron Howard

Costumes - Gotta be Moulin Rouge. And I hope it wins for best wanna fuck - Ewan McGregor -- you can tell everyone this is your dong!!!

(Postscript, does anyone think that Sean Penn in "I Am Sam" is doing a great Dustin Hoffman from "Rain Man?")

for the record my BF's tips are

1.BEST FILM- A BEAUTIFUL MIND

2.BEST DIRECTOR-PETER JACKSON

3.BEST ACTOR-RUSSELL CROWE

4.BEST ACTRESS-SISSY SPACEK

tell me that they suck and that he doesn't have a chance pleeeze !

i couldn't stand the gloating,the comments,the "whos da man"when the envelopes are opened.AHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!

Rush-off to bed depressed, miserable and probably 200 bucks poorer

Hey, Rush --

The BF might lose on Best Director and Best Actor, if those are his picks. You may not need to completely empty out the ATM! I kind of agree that Ron Howard is in the running, especially if "Beautiful Mind" also wins Best Picture. (Although I liked your pick of Altman, because I think "Gosford Park" is just plain brilliant.) No matter how good Russell Crowe is, there's a lot pulling for Denzel Washington, both because of the urge to give an award to an African-American and because he's been in the game a lot longer than Russell Crowe. It's his "turn," in other words. It's going to be a tough year to call, though, because there's real competition among some good films, for a change!

BEST ACTOR--------RUSSEL CROWE

BEST ACTRESS----SISSY SPACEK ---although Ms Berry PROBABLY will get it. She actually did NOTHING but scream, moan, and cry. Actually, the FAT boy did the best acting in THAT film.

BEST DIRECTOR-----ROBERT ALTMAN--- LOVED the film (or was it that Iloved Ryan and the actor who played in Croupier?

BEST PICTURE----A BEAUTIFUL MIND

Hey Rush,

Things are not so bad....start now being extra nice to the bf. Maybe breakfast in bed served nude with a smile and a plump pillow. Let him control the remote for a while and maybe he'll just forget about this silly ole bet.

Otherwise. You in a heep o trouble boy.;-)

Denzel Washington received the Oscar for his supporting role in GLORY.

If I am wrong about the film, I am absolutely correct in his winning an oscar in a supporting role.

I appreciate your support: "Denzel Washington deserved it long ago..."

Next weekend besides my meeting some hunky escorts, I think I'll be in the movie houses in SF attempting to absorb all of this maddness. I hope your choice for "best picture" receives the Oscar this year in spite of my not having seen it. Oh, so many friends of mine and the individuals discussing the film via television have had NOTHING but RAVES, RAVES, and more RAVES!

I'm with Raffy. I think you're 0 for 4. I also think he's close on his pics. I think the only 1 in doubt is best actress. As I recall, Kidman wasn't thrilled with her kids being raised as Scientologists. For that reason, I might give the "anti-scientology" edge to her.

While I think Crowe deserves Best Actor, he will NOT win because no way in hell will the Academy put him in same class with Spencer Tracy and Tom Hanks. (And he should have won for "The Insider" = 3 in a row)
