I think it might have been AlanM who mentioned something about TV shows and I thought that would be a fun topic. I watch the news ALOT.

CNN, MSNBC, FOXNEWS, etc.. There was only one TV star I ever wanted to meet and that was Elizabeth Montgomery of Bewitched. When I was in

grade school, I would fantasize about her being my mother and making all the kids who were mean to me at school disappear. I still watch Bewitched occasionally on the Hallmark Channel. I watch the Golden Girls at least once a day, which is pretty easy since it's on 6 times a day. I went to see Bea Arthur's show when she was here in Columbus last summer. She was great. What a mouth!}>

As far as today's shows go, I've never seen Queer As Folk. I saw Six

Feet Under-liked it-and it really brought back memories of when I was in high school working at a funeral home. The funeral director was married and had a 13 y.o. daughter. He was gay and molested me(well, he got me drunk the first time, I was very willing the next time).

I think the West Wing is great, especially since they expanded Stockard Channing's role. Friends, Will and Grace(love Karen though) are kind of hit or miss for me. How about Trading Spaces? Ty is yummy!

Not the best carpenter in the world (Amy's got him beat) but he's so cute. Sometimes I will watch The View while I'm on the treadmill at the gym. I think Meredith Viera is kind of sexy. Did anyone see it the other day when they were doing a piece about plastic surgery and Joy's friend Linda Dano was on with her surgeon discussing plastic surgery? Here was Linda being so open about her procedures and Barbara didn't say a thing about whatever she's had done. She's 70 years old now and looks great.

Honorable Mention: Watching Ellie, Frasier and Scrubs.

I certainly agree with your assessment of Bea Arthur. I was saddened that her Broadway appearance has received less that glowing reviews.

When she was here in Houston, Galveston actually, she was well received and was the toast of the Gulf Coast.

I don't care for QAF personally but think it's important that it is on the air. I'm a big ole Six Feet Under fan and tape all episodes. I don't even have the high school fantasy going for me. I do however love those brothers and vascilate from Nate to David and back weekly.

As for vintage classics I guess Thirty Something made a big impact as it seemed to mirror my own personal experiences at the time and I always appreciated the Napa Valley of Falconcrest ( a little ashamed of that choice)

Always good to hear from the Columbus contingent.

When the current episode of OZ finished the other night, I thought, "They ought to have a special award for great television. I mean truly 'great' television. Art." So: OZ is my favorite tv program, ever, even more than "Your Show of Shows" with Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca.

Other great TV, according to my lights: DESIGNING WOMEN; GOLDEN GIRLS; FRASIER (the episode called "Les Freres Heureux," when Frasier and Niles open a restaurant, is -- beyond question -- the funniest tv show I have ever seen; in fact, I watch it every time it comes on).

Now that you bring it up, I notice that most of the programs that come to mind are comedies. Thus, I should mention THE NEWS HOUR; NOVA; and some of the offerings on BRAVO, which is an arts cable channel.

The so-called "gay theme" shows make me depressed. Worst of all is QUEER AS FOLK; but WILL & GRACE is close behind. SIX FEET UNDER has gotten weird for weird's sake, which is too bad.

Bea Arthur on Broadway. Since I have always liked her, I rushed to get tickets, and they were pretty good ones too. Unfortunately, her show sucked. She can't sing, and there wasn't a spontaneous, unscripted moment all night. A major disappointment.

Queer As Folk annoys the hell out of me. I don't know anybody like those guys, and the idea of a straight guy portraying a slutty gay guy is offensive to me. On the other hand, Justin can come over anytime he wants.

Six Feet Under is my favorite. I want Keith to get naked!

I enjoyed it. And if I remember correctly so did the NYtimes. I know "Variety" didn't like it, but I don't like them.

That was my experience, exactly. Also, she reveals very few personal details (we left the theater & asked ourselves if she'd ever been married or had kids), which you wouldn't expect in a one-woman show. The songs were awful. She had practically nothing to say about the Golden Girls, which is half the reason most of us were there to see her. It's kind of sad that the only time the audience (myself included) got really excited was when they played the theme from "Maude" and she stood up & sang along. Oh, and a few of the jokes she told have been forwarded around the internet for years. Bad Bea.

I am going to see Bea Arthur this weekend...she is one of my all time favorites. Watch Golden Girls almost everyday and have seen all episodes. Other old favorites are Mary Tyler Moore Show, I love Lucy, Laverne and Shirley (the Lucy and Ethel of their day). Current favorites: Boston Public, The Practice, Philly, 24, Survivor, CSI, JAG, Will & Grace,First Monday (new show about the Supreme Court) Oz, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos. My FAVORITE: Sex and the City. I do watch Queer as Folks and think it is the WORST show on the air. Atrocious writing and directing...the actors do what they can but it represents 2, perhapes l dimentional characters that have absolutely nothing going for them. Justin is cute and that's it. The Sharon Gless character, Debbie, is so UNREAL. There isn't ONE likeable straight character. They have so much potential with the uncle (Debbie's brother) who is HIV+ and they just ignore him. This past week's episode (where Justin pulls a Brian on his previous sex partner) was the worst yet. If, (IF) any straight person watches this, imagine what impression they get of gays.

Sadly, I agree about Bea.

But, I liked Elaine Stritch's one-woman show alot. The script is first rate and Stritch gives a wonderful performance. Everything I was hoping for in Bea's show.

Stritch tried out for "Golden Girls." She talks about it in the show.

Apparently Stritch and the head writer took an immediate dislike to each other. Stritch told the head writer that she often make "improvements" in scripts. The response was: that would not

be allowed, except in punctuation. No, that was not what Strirch had in mind. For example, she planned to change the line to the houseboy from "Please get me a drink" to "Please get me fucking drink." Of course, we all know Stritch did not get the job.

As much as I love Bea, I have to admit her show was somewhat lacking, although I was entertained. She has always been very guarded about her private life. She was married at some time and has 2 sons I believe. When I saw her in July, she had a terrible cold and had an air cast on her leg from a fall off stage in Minneapolis or St. Louis.

But, she was a trooper and gave it her best. Granted, her voice isn't

what is was when she won her Tony for Mame in the '60's?.

I may have to break down and get some premium channels. Is that hot

Chris Meloni still on OZ? I think he's on some broadcast TV show, but I can't remember what it is, maybe C.S.I.?

ALL of Chris Meloni, every bit of Chris Meloni, was on the other night. First, he turned away from the camera and pulled off his pants, rather slowly, so that you could get a good, long look at his gorgeous bare ass. Then he turned around, the camera backed away, and Chris Meloni walked slowly and provocatively towards the camera, swinging all the way. That was towards the beginning of the episode. Towards the end of the episode, he and what's-his-name had a long, long, open-mouthed kiss, filmed close up.

It's time to sign up for HBO!!!!

Will, thanks for the info. on Chris Meloni.:9 Guess it is about time to get HBO.

I was so flattered when a client told me that I reminded him of Chris, much better than Jim J. Bullock, James Taylor or Kenny Loggins(when I had alot more hair).

SHIT - you almost gave me a cardiac arrest reading your discription of CM. I missed that episode but hope I catch it in re-runs.

Meloni is to me THE HOTTEST TV HUNK in the business. Unfortunately in my area, Law & Order - Special Victim's Unit, runs in the same time slot as OZ and it is the only time either of them appear, so it's always a toss up as to which to watch. It's great to see him naked in OZ, but I also like his squeaky clean appearance in SVU. What's a poor guy to do?

Evidently he is happily married with children. He must be either a really good actor to do the OZ scenes so convincingly - or - is there another side to Mr. Meloni?

Strange that he has not been in many regular feature length movies. Thought Hollywood would have eaten him up - so to speak.

I very rarel watch Tv, I usually pop in a movie for background noise while I'm online or cleaning. Valley of the Dolls cause "yuo know how bitchy fags can be" , Steel MAgnolias, "This one hit her hard,"Drop Dead Gorgeous, "They remade my stomach with skin from my butt", or Pink Flamingos" Condone first degree mureder, advocate canabalism, eat shit, filth is my politics, filth is my life."

When I do watch TV its usually pretty late and we lean towards All in the Family, The Jeffersons, or the AbTronic commericals. He's selling a piece of shit, but the guy is kinndah hot.

24 Every Minute Counts! A few runner ups are The Jeffersons, SOAP, West Wing, Letterman, QVC and QAF.

Otherwise, I very rarely watch TV anymore. Most programs are simply boring, stupid or so unrealistic it hurts to watch them.

Cheers! Ritchie

You guys are making me question my sexuality because I'd rather watch Friends than The Golden Girls!

Favorite tv show at the moment is Third Watch on NBC as a serving cop its probably the nearest to "real"everyday life on the job and its filmed in some of my old precincts in Harlem.

Favourite all time show is a tie between MASH and I Love Lucy after a hard day they are great to unwind to.

I agree about Oz and Chris Meloni he's worth the extra charge for HBO on his own and Eamon Walker aint too bad either !!!.

Hummm... we have similiar tastes in tv/movies. If I were to come to nola, and hired your services, I hope we don't just watch videos.

Pink Flamingos is a great movie... did you know it has the highest return on investment of any movie made? However, I just don't care for grilled steak any more. A far more superior Water's film is Female Trouble. In my mind this ranks with all-time classics on the level of Citizen Kane, Star Wars, or Gone with the Wind. There are lines in this movie that are brilliant and ahead of their time.

Since from nola, you may appreciate the movie "Suddenly, Last Summer". It is the screen play from a Tennesse Williams play. Stars a young and very handsome Monty Cliff, young and THIN Elizabeth Taylor, and awesome and prematurely shaking Kathryn Hepburn. There is gay theme to it, but sublinial (sp)-- most straight people don't get it.

Jeffersons is cool, not so much for the comic value, but I think was notable due to it's social progressiveness. One of the first shows to mainstream black folks.

As for TV, only show I make a point of watching is Namaste America, early am on Saturdays. Music vidoes from "Balliwood" -- Bombay India. The dancers and choreography makes Madonna and Michael Jackson videos seem rank amatuers.
