Boy, it'd be a hard choice to make if had to choose between the two of you. Both sound so desirable! :*

Another bug: sometimes the icons are yellow for unread messages, while other times they are the same color as the read ones. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which color displays.

Daddy,

For posters who have entered an ICQ#, the ICQ icon isn't displaying next to their name. (Just a "missing graphic" blob.)

It appears that this image is being retrieved directly from icq.com, so it's sorta beyond your control, but is the URL correct?

(Check out postings by sdmuscl4hire in his "God I Love Clients Like This" thread in the lounge.)

Daddy,

This one is going to sound weird and I'm having trouble reproducing it.

SOMETIMES (not always) the DEL key doesn't work when I'm composing a reply.

(Hey, I said it would sound weird :p )

When it happens, all I have to do is set focus anywhere outside of the edit box and then back, and all is well. Is this an IE bug or is the script code referenced on the reply page using some sort of keyboard filtering that sometimes gets confused?

At first I thought my keyboard might be going wacky, but I've been trying to get this to happen in other applications and other web pages and it only happens here. It has only happened a half-dozen or so times.

Anyone else seen this?

I just got an error trying to post a reply in the "All I needed to know about gay men I learned at the Hustlerball!" thread in the lounge.

The error was "Subject too long."

If the original post is OK, the reply with an unchanged subject should be OK.

Interestingly, the error message further says the limit is 64 characters. Drop that sentence into Word (sans quotation marks) and you'll find it's exactly 64 characters. ;-)

The forums are showing as having new messages as soon as someone posts, even though the message hasn't been released from the que.... and I'm wondering if I hit Mark at that point, will it refresh again and show a new message when the que is released? If not I think people will be missing a lot of new messages. Is there a way so that it will only show new messages once it has cleared the que?

Thanks :)

A tiny bug (a buggie?) - I clicked on the "number of points" bar on a message by Tampa Yankee and got Tampa's ratings instead. As you can understand, and much as I respect both posters, I am still deeply disturbed by this unexpected and unfortunate experience, but I hope to be better soon. ;-)

ET...I'm confused here (normal for a Saturday). If you click on #of points or the star you are supposed to be directed to that posters ratings page.

RE: News messages blank

When I click on "read new messages", the screen reports "no new messages" even though a day or so has transpired and messages appear if I ask for last 24 hours. Am I doing something wrong?

I see the point Esc_Tracker is trying to make. It seems to affect posters who have spaces in the names. For instance, Tampa Yankee, Jason Reardone, Joey Ciccone, and some others. If you look at the Index of User Ratings, Joey Ciccone has 4 ratings under the name Joey and 4 ratings under the name Joey Ciccone. Jason Reardone has ratings under both Jason and Jason Reardone. FFF has ratings under Fin and Fin Fang Foom. Rick Munroe has a listing for Rick and Rick Munroe, but is rated only under Rick Munroe. Same goes for TY. Hope this helps locate the problem.

Yes, we know about the user name issue. When the new software was installed there was a problem with user names that were too long or had spaces in them.

But what has been reported (and I can't make happen) is that clicking on the ratings link or the stars on a post by "Tampa Yankee" you land on the ratings for "Tampa".

I've gone to the right ratings every time. If this is truly random (and it appears to be) it's going to be a bitch to debug. x(

I’m no programmer but it does appear to have something to do with name issue. Like you I can’t make it happen but it is apparent that it is happening.

Take Rod Hagen for example. According to all the posts that I see, Rod has yet to be rated and if I click on rate user the I’m automatically taken to the screen to rate “Rod Hagen”. Yet Rod Hagen does have three reviews under the name “Rod” given to him by BuckyXTC, NASAguy and adriano46.

Since Esc_Tracker is taken “Tampa” when he tries to rate “Tampa Yankee”, I’d be curious to know if he see the stars next to Tampa Yankee’s posts. I don’t see any stars next to Rod Hagen’s posts yet he has three ratings. And conversely, do Bucky, NASA and adriano see ratings next to Rod Hagen’s name since they have rated him?

Seems to be a very interesting a puzzle, but frustrating none the less.x(

That was there from the beginning. I remember someone (I forget who) rating themselves the first day of the new software.

The counter will catch up with you. If you come back tomorrow, it will reflect today's activity. It's not updated in real time.

Yes, programmers (I am one) live for "interesting" situations like this. NOT! }>

I'm willing to bet that people who are seeing this behavior have some subtle user setting different than most of us. Either threads expanded, going through "new messages" view or whatever. We just don't have enough detail here to chase this down in any meaningful or helpful way for the programmers.

Helpful would be "here are exact steps to reproduce".

RE: Problems with the Views count

I am not sure if anyone has noted this, but the Views count only seems to kick in when someone responds to the original posting.

Nope, I'm unmoderated and one of my recent posts seems to be "stuck" and not showing any views when it is visited.

Another potential bug:

I got a private message today from someone who addressed me by my real name but I didn't recognize the "handle" they were using for themselves. I went to look up their handle at the profiles area and the little box with the alphabet came up, but when I clicked the letter "c" the loading process began and went on and on and on without ever taking me to the list of members whose handles begin with "C". Finally, I had to force quit Netscape, restart it and reenter the message area. Tried the same process again, to no avail. And since I haven't seen any posts by anyone with this screenname/handle, that appears to be the only way I would be able to look at their profile.

RE: News messages blank

I get the same thing - wondered if I was a problem with my browser, but obviously not.

Also, it's not possible to use the back command to return to the message list after reading a post - it times out.

Unregistered users

Hi Daddy,

It seems that the new software has been keeping you busy. Anyway, I'm just curious about something I come across on the MC recently. There appears to be several "unregistered" users posting on the MC (e.g. the thread "Straight or not straight" in the Lounge). I could be mistakened but I thought only "registered" users are permitted to post.

Have a great week. Take care.

JT
