Rogers is gone

Tried to go to Rogers last night, and it is closing. Last night was the closing party and then it will shut its doors. Just thought I would relay that message to the board.

Roger's is indeed closing, but my understanding is that it's not permanent. They're closing to do some remodeling because they want to be able to operate as a sauna during the usual hours (from around 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) and then re-open after midnight as an after-hours dance club. They need to rearrange some things, apparently, to make this work -- evidently they plan to use separate entrances for the two activities, with dancers going from the street directly upstairs. At least that's what one of their managers told us the other night at Corujinha. So stay tuned.

 

Another tidbit (not confirmed) is that the notorious Help disco on Av. Atlântica, which for years has been the epicenter of the straight sex-for-money trade with foreign tourists, has been sold and is going to be transformed into a gay dance club! If this turns out to be true, the neighbors will probably be offering hosannas, because Help attracted endless trouble. Every petty thief and con artist in Rio knew it was the place to find drunken sex-besotted tourists who could be Mickey Finned or just assaulted on the streets nearby. The gay community (at least the night life loving part of it) will also be giving thanks, because it's about time for LeBoy to get some real competition. If anyone gets solid confirmation of this rumor, please post here!

Have some news about Rogers. Trilingual is right, it closed for a few days and it´s open again. As a sauna till midnight and a bar/disco after. Went to the re-re-opening last thursday and it was quite crowded with boys and clients. Liked the place but the boys are not as gorgeous as they are at Point and 117. Too bad. But it is worth a visit.

Question - Is the clientel in the bar/club the same as who frequent the sauna, i.e. clients and boys? That could be interesting.

Brazilian Town Declares Orgasm Day

 

 

 

 

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Sex rarely makes the news in Brazil's conservative Northeast - until a small town declared an official Orgasm Day on Monday.

 

Espertantina Mayor Felipe Santolia endorsed the May 9 holiday, which he said was intended to improve relationships between married couples.

 

``We're celebrating orgasm in all its senses. There's even a panel discussion on premature ejaculation. But from what I've seen, women have more trouble achieving orgasm than men, especially in marriage,'' Santolia said by telephone from Esperantina, 1,300 miles north of Rio de Janeiro.

 

Santolia said the remote town of 38,000 people has been unofficially celebrating orgasm day for years, but that the town's former mayor had vetoed a bill making it an official municipal holiday.
