The BF is away for the weekend (visiting his family) and I'm playing! Went to the recently re-opened Roger's to check it out, and I was pleased with what I found. The entry area has been opened out, and they've installed a Japanese style ofuro bath (a current rage in Brazil) in the shower area. Upstairs they've removed the locked door to the cabine area, which is now directly accessible through the upstairs video lounge as well as the old stairs from the locker room. The mattresses in the cabines now have sheets, and there is at least one suite with private shower in the area of the old "relax" room. The steam bath continues to be hot and humid (one of the better ones in town, IMHO, if you're into using the facilities) and the dry sauna has been updated.

I was there around 5:30 on a Wedsnesday afternoon and stayed a couple of hours. Lots of guys, not many clients at that point. Maybe 15 guys available, in the usual range of colors and physiques. Not as many pumped body-builders as you see at Point 202; the majority have more natural builds. The latest wrinkle is that all the working guys are wearing aqua speedos and they can't show off the goodies in the downstairs lounge area. They can in the porno video lounge upstairs, though, if you want to check out the equipment before making a selection.

Rates were as usual: R$50. Entrance, 3 soft drinks and two cabine rentals came to R$70.

For those who prefer a smaller, less frenzied environment than Point 202 or Club 117, Roger's is a good choice. Address and directions can be found in the very first entry in the Brazilian Saunas review (look in Escort Reviews, and then Mexico & South America, or use the direct link from the Escorts South FAQ section).

Tri, that is the one thing I thought was a total waste of space. The "customers" who were there the two nights that I went there said they are not going to use it, because to get into it, you have to take off your towel and walk up 3 small steps to get in while you are facing the Bar and the patrons 10 feet away! So as you are awkardly trying to step up and over the edge of the tub to step back down into it, you are naked in some rather unflattering poses facing everyone sitting in the bar and lounge area!

I had met the owner the previous night at Corujinha's and he invited me to visit so that I would write a positive review. I can do that regarding the rooms and facility, it is nice and new. However I found the quality of boys lacking, this is in part because Junior the owner of Estacau and Pointe has told them that anyone who goes to work at Roger's will not be able to work at his two places..ever! So that has kept many of the guys away. Also I found the guys working there very aggressive!, probably due to the lack of customers. To get guys to work there, the owner(actually 3 owners, all straight!)is limiting the number of boys to 20 max. a night, to give them better odds of making money. Possibly a good concept for the boys, but if the majority of the first 20 are not the type you like, not good for the customer. I went two nights in a row and did Nothing!!!! which everyone who knows me, will tell you the quality must have really been lacking! There were two muscle guys, both older then most, I would guess mid 30's, the rest average to lean bodies, none that I thought were more then average looking and everyone of them asked me to buy them a drink and/or food within 5 minutes of walking in the door. There were only 3 other customers there, so that may account for their aggressiveness. I would give the place a "A' for cleanines and for the rooms, a "B" for layout and a "F" for the tub arrangement, and a "D" for type of guys. Hopefully the quality of the guys will improve, but with point a 1/4 block away and Estacao 2 blocks away, I did give it much of a chance.

Maybe Point 202 group can add it to their inventory, and make it more for the upscale client with upscale guys. Intimate and selective, etc.

The pictures do look nice.

Not being quite as insatiable as Tomcal, I was satisfied with the guys I found at Roger's! And I consider myself fairly picky in terms of looks and dimensions! ;)

Having just reopend under new management, Roger's is still in it's shakedown phase. However, there were enough attractive guys to choose from when I was there the other day, and the number of clients was increasing around the time I was ready to leave. I think they'll make it. It's rather incredible that the market can support so many establishments, but somehow it does!

As for the ofuro's strategic location, I did see it being used while I was there. Tomcal, are you going shy on us after all this time? After all, what you've got to show off has now been seen by a cast of thousands! What difference will a few more make? Especially considering that you're in better shape than any number of clients! }(

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how Roger's does. At least one of the guys I was with there said he had been working at Club 117 but decided to change. And it'll provide an alternative to the guys tired of the Junior monopoly. I'll take his "never work here again" vow with a grain of salt. If a guy is popular enough and has a following, I'm sure Junior will be happy to have him back! He and Edgard are much too clever businessmen to shoot themselves in the foot that way.

Tri, your right I am not shy! lol, what I said in the post above was..."The "customers" who were there the two nights that I went there said they are not going to use it,..." There are customers both new and repeat who don't even get into a towel at the suanas, much less stand up naked in front of the whole bar just to get into what looks like a big wine vat!! However, I did try it out, it's not like a spa you would have in your back yard, I still think it's a waste of space, they would get more use out of putting a couple of more tables in that space.

Now, I know what your requirements are when looking for a "friend" at the saunas, and I didn't see any guys over 7" there on the two nights, much less any that would fall into the "TRI" category! lol

THe week I was there in June(I was just there two weeks ago too, but didn't bother to go back to Rogers')both Gulliver and Driver were there, we went at different times from each other, none of us there at the same time and I believe their perceptions of Roger's are the same as mine! Quanity and Quality lacking compared to Pointe or 117.

I hope Roger's makes it! I think the more sauna's the better. Rogers definitly has better decor and newness of facilites, but you can't have sex with either of those!! So that doesn't count for many points with me. 117 on the other hand is the oldest of all the saunas in terms of age of the rooms/beds, etc., BUT it has 30+ guys on Thurs/Fridays/Saturdays! and I think a overall higher quality of guys as does Pointe.

One caveat...it only takes one boy that you really like to make a sauna work for you! Just before I left to go to the airport from Rio the Sunday before last, I went to Pointe at 3:00pm when they opened as I had to leave at 5:00, I wasn't too hopefull, but thought i would give it a try. There were only 4 guys there, but two were very hot, so, it doesn't necessarily take alot of guys to make a sauna succeed, but IMHO, of the 5 suanas, at least as of two weeks ago, Roger's had the least attractive for me. Again, just my opinion, oh and they had the highest entrance fee $25. reias.

I agree, Tom. I went to Roger's for the first time when I was in Rio in June. The staff was very friendly but I felt the sauna boys were at best average looking. They also were high pressure, coming up to me even before I had my stuff in the locker to hit me up for a drink. I did not find, out of approximately 10 sauna guys there, anyone I would give a second look to. IMHO, they in no way compare to the guys at Point or 117. They facilities are very nice. The owners have done a nice renovating job but I also feel the hot tub is out of place. I wouldn't use it. And during the short time I was there nobody was in it. It would work better in a more secluded spot. I would love to fool around with a sauna guy in a hot tub but not in the middle of Times Square. It's too open. But I do hope the place makes it. We need all the saunas we can get. Roger's is the first Rio sauna I was ever in and holds a place near and dear to my heart. :-) But the quality of the guys needs to be improved. There's too much competition from the other saunas, particularly Point, 117 and Spa 73. I think Estacao has gone downhill. Not many guys and the hottest ones seem to be at Point now. Anyway, I don't think I will be going back to Roger's very soon. Not when the choices at the other places are so varied and numerous.

Is Grupo Pointe getting ready for a takeover?

Might not be too early to plan ahead!

If worse comes to worse, then the American Cartel can take it over.

:)

Does that mean there are few Americanos in Rio at this time,

and the Point is slow?

Does that mean that the boys are slow at the POinte,

or that there are few of them?
