Howdy Fellow South American Enthusiasts :)

Just letting everyone know that i'm scheduled to be down in Rio in the beginning of September and would love to meet (Hooville-style) with anyone else planning to be in GIG around then.

Right now, my plans for fun are a bit sketchy, but i do plan on visiting a few saunas, Copacabana Beach and anything artsy/funky in general about the city. I'm quite familiar with Sao Paulo, but Rio is a place i'm totally lost on. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance guys. Hope to meet with some of you while i'm South of the border.

Warmest,

Benjamin Nicholas

Try going hang gliding. It's exciting, affords unbeatable views, and you're strapped snugly into the delta wing with a (usually) hot Brazilian instructor. The outfit I went with was great, and their instructors speak English - http://www.riohanggliding.com

Funky - Friday nights in Lapa. It's a big street party with ALL kinds of people having fun. Go with a local, though.

Artsy - Contemporary Art Museum in Niteroi. It's an amazing building designed by Oscar Niemayer and they usually have interesting exhibits. Also, Niteroi is a nice break from Rio for a few hours, and the ferry ride there is beautiful.

Have a great trip!

It would be fun to meet you, but I'll be back in the U.S. on those dates.

Browsing or searching the endless postings here on Escorts South will fill you in on things to do and places to go in Rio. For general sightseeing, get either the Rough Guide to Brazil or the Footprints series Brazil Handbook. They're the most thorough. The Lonely Planet guide to Rio de Janeiro is also pretty good.

Art and culture: The historic areas downtown around Cinelândia and the cultural corridor from Praça XV to Av. Pres. Vargas along R. 1º de março are best bets. A number of big old office/government buildings in the corridor have been turned into cultural centers, offering a constant series of exhibits and performances. Leading the pack is the Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil (CCBB) which always has things going on and has a nice tea room (of the traditional kind) upstairs where you can treat yourself to high tea in the afternoon. The other kind of t-room, upstairs behind the book shop, is also interesting! ;-) In the same area are the Casa França-Brasil, the Centro Cultural dos Correios, and the Paço Imperial (the old imperial palace), all of which are now filled with exhibits and events. In Cinelândia visit the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, the Biblioteca Nacional (the largest in Latin America which now has an exhibit area entered through the back side of the building on r. Mexico showing priceless treasures of the collection), and the Museu de Arte Moderno (MAM).

Beach time: the hottest and hunkiest will be found at Posto 9, the gay beach in Ipanema at the foot of R. Farme de Amoedo. It may be a bit quiet on weekdays because this is low season, but it'll be packed on any nice weekend.

There are non-escort saunas, like Studio 64 in Ipanema, as well as the saunas with escorts extensively discussed here on Escorts South. The hottest club is still LeBoy, in Copacabana, but Incontrus (next to Corujinha) has an interesting downscale crowd -- many of the sauna boys go there after work. It's biggest night is Monday! In Ipanema there is the Galeria Café (actually a bar) and the Fork restaurant on R. Teixeira de Melo, near Praça Gen. Osório.

Although it's now closing on Sundays for reasons I haven't yet determined, you can usually find M4Mers who are in town at Corujinha, the bar at the corner of R. Hilário de Gouvéia and Praça Serzedelo Correia in Copacabana. It's one block inland from Av. Atlântico on Hilário, with a big yellow awning sweeping around the corner. The M4M crowd gathers for de-briefing sessions and socializing around 10:30 - 11:00 p.m. Just look for the obvious gringos!!! This is also where the sauna guys go after the saunas close in the hope of making one last score (or getting a place to spend the night without having to take a 2-hour bus trip home in the middle of the night).

It's virtually impossible not to have a good time in Rio. Enjoy your visit!

I'm guessing Ben is escorting a lucky guy to Rio and not just going for the uhh....sex...I mean cultural attractions! Yeah thats it!

Don't you think taking BN to Rio is like taking coal to Newcastle?:p

I'm sure you'll have a great time Ben and you will find that the guys there like you as much as the guys in London do.
