My instinct is to advise you NOT to pick up guys at the beach or in the discos, even if your intention is to go to a "motel" with them. Some other first-timers have done this and had the kind of costly and dangerous experience they're likely never to forget. ;(

As a newbie, it's not likely that you speak the language or will be sufficiently in-tune culturally to pick up on the kinds of subtle clues that might send up red flags for a local or an "old Brazil hand." The guys who practice the "Nighty-night, Cinderella" knock-out scam are very slick and few are ever caught. The only exception to this warning would be if you go to the beach with a trusted local friend, or one of the "old Brazil hands," and only pick up someone they know and can confirm is trustworthy.

I'm old enough to know one should never say "never," but please, for the sake of your own safety and peace of mind, stick to the guys at the saunas or from the agencies, or a guy that another M4Mer or local can vouch for at Corujinha. The chances of something bad happening with them are infinitely lower than with a stranger you pick up on the beach. After you've gotten to know the country and the culture, and are more in touch with the local scene, you can try branching out. But I'd let that wait until a second or third trip. Believe me, you won't run out of opportunities at the tried-and-true spots. :9

DON'T DO IT !! If you never take any other advise from those of us that are experienced Rio travelers, please take this advise!

The two incidents of guys being drugged and robbed that I personally know of, happened when they picked guys off the beach. Especially the gay beach in front of Maxim's in Copa. With so many hot guys available from the saunas, why take the risk? Two friends of mine who went down in Dec., had met with me just prior to their going down there and I told them, remember, don't take any guys you meet from the beach back to your hotel! Well, they of course let their ego get in the way, as their 3rd day down there, they thought they had the "lay of the land" pretty scooped out, and since they are both gdlkg guys with good builds in their 40's, figured that for sure the two guys at the beach hitting on them must really want to have sex with them for fun not money....yeah right...they were mugged and robbed, lost cash, cameras. The other was the incident I reported here about 1-1/2 years ago with Carlos from Miami, same exact scenario, except they drugged him in the room(shared a coke) and he last everything including passport/cash/credit cards and most of his clothes. The two friends were staying at the Copacabana Palace and Carlos at a condo above Maxims', just a block away and the guys they picked up were by the Rainbow Kiosk across Atlantico blvd from Maxims.

Yikes! The fellow who was recently murdered in a building a couple of doors away from mine was seen the night of the murder with a couple of guys at the Rainbow Kiosk!

The news article speculated that the killers just intended to drug him or otherwise rob him, but the victim was known to be very aggressive when drunk, so he may have done something that provoked the guys he picked up into something worse. There hasn't been any further news about this since the murder.

Anyway, you heard it here from the experts! Unless you've gone to the beach with a trusted local or "old Brazil hand" who knows the people there and can vouch for someone, DON'T go home with anyone you meet sur-la-plage. THE SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR THE BARS/DISCOS!!! There are way too many other good-looking guys available at the saunas or through the agencies who are safe and with whom you'll have a good time.

Before I took my first trip to Brasil-- I read everything that was posted on this board by those individuals who had traveled there previously; I hired one escort from Appollus and saw a few guys at Estacao and Club 117. In spite of my aborting the remainder of this trip (on my own accord), I had a wonderful time based on all of the advice and guidance I'd received from my fellow M4Mers. The same went for my second and third trips as well.

Aside from the sexual component that prevails in Brasil's cities, I did a great deal of reading from my five good books on traveling to that country. I even surfed many websites. When I devised my itinerary for CarloRio at Romanus's, touching all bases, it became an easy feat. With all of the informaton I'd gleaned from the books and from the men who post here, I didn't go wrong in having experienced two of the greatest trips/ventures of my life.

I'd truly advise that you follow the guidance of those pros (I'm excluded.)!

RE: how do i pick up guys on the beach in rio -DON'T

What are the drugs used for these robberies?

Perhaps an antidote can be made up in one of those mystical shops?

A while back someone posted about picking up guys on the beach. He used the guys that rent chairs and umbrellas as a contact to approach and vouch for the guys. I never tried it myself and always played safe and stuck to the saunas except for one pick-up at Le Boy which was consumated upstairs at their sauna. I feel I would have to speak Portuguese a lot better and have a better feel for reading people there to try anything so risky.

Fisrt the drug they use is a extremely fast acting agent(I think Gringo can probably attest to that, as he also had a experience with it) It takes less than a couple of mins to act. By the time you know you are getting "whoosey" you can't make it to the counter to get a antidote,if there is one. These guys hold you down until you pass out!

Now this is a case of Do as I say, not as I do! lol I have and continue to meet guys outside the suanas, but I make sure in every case that guys that I know, either know these guys or can vouch for them. Since I "know" so many guys in Rio - }( there is usually someone around who judgement I trust and who I consider a friend. I typically will take someone back from Corujinhas at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning, but in every case I have asked one of the boys I trust if the guy could be trusted or if he knew him. On this last trip, two of the most fun guys I met where guys I picked off the street, BUT...I really don't recommend for anyone who has only been down there once or twice.

So the drugs are like an 'wild' animal tranqulizer,

which can be used as embalming fluid?!

I am LQQKing for a part time BBER Bodyguard Attendent

to show me around some of the other parts of Rio

the end of May!

Please don't hesitate to make any referrals.

Some English is necessary.

Are there any umployed Jabba boys?

Keep your eyes open.

Right on, Tom! I ditto your every word and could NOT agree more! At first I had planned NOT to respond to Mavica's response based on what I'd previously written over a year ago, but I just could not resist.

She is really in the know after visiting the country on one occasion and for such a "very extended" time!

First of all, you're asking this question about non-commercial relationships (non hustlers) on a website devoted to promoting the commercial sex trade. Don't expect to find a lot of support for what you're trying to do.

Depending upon the type of person you are, the cruising experience you've had in foreign-language/culture environments, etc. - crusising to "pick-up" guys on Rio's beaches may or not make sense. You know yourself better than anyone else, so employ some common sense.

Other than the beaches, there are discos and non-hustler saunas where meet-ups and encounters are possible. I've done that and have no reservation about suggesting that others can do so as well. Few posters on this forum have experience outside of the heavily-commercial sex-for-money trade in Rio . . . so don't expect much helpful advice/support.

The hustler saunas touted here are good places to go for quick know-what-you're getting-sex. However, some people enjoy the regular "old fashioned" way of hooking-up.

Read all of the advice given, sift it through your own filters . . . and have some fun. Rio's not all that safe an enviornment for strangers to wander in, so play safe and stay aware of who you're with and where you're at.

Enjoy the adventure, and don't let the nay-sayers have their way!

Suerte!

And you know this because...you have met so many of us?? I date weekly here in L.A.(non escort), as do two of my friends who go to Rio with me, on the other hand from the description that the people in Rio who met you, gave of you, I would say probably you should apply that statement to yourself, your experiences outside of the commercial sex for money trade was limited to many years ago!

It is really wrong to imply to someone that its' ok to pick up guys off the beach, bars, etc, in Rio[b/] based on your one trip there with your elderly friend, when the only incidents of crime committed on M4M's that we are aware of in Rio happened everytime they picked up someone from either the beach or bars. To our knowledge there has not been a incident of mugging/drugging with a sauna guy in the past three years(maybe longer, but that's the time frame I am familiar with).

If anyone wants to see who is credible I suggest they read your posts and the responses in the archives from 2/25/03, While in general I don't like stereotypes, you do seem to wear the tiara well of the "Bitter Old Queen".

RE: Go for it!

Right but is it safe to take a sauna guy in a rented appartement?

If there is some bad problem, the guy should know that on the next day I can go to the sauna and make some turmoil about him in such a way that he is likely to be barred from the sauna if not more.}(
