In August I had 2 weeks off and I tried 3 cities. The last city Rio came in as a cheap fare all of a sudden so I took it even though it was only 3 nights there. I enjoyed it so much I want to go back and my plans are firming up now. (No smutty remarks please :p ).

I looks like I will be there from 27th or 29th October until maybe 11th November.

My questions:

(1) what part of copacobana beach is the gay section and what hotels are nearish to it - I stayed at the Debret last time and do not remember seeing a gay section (not that they would stick a flag up or anything LOL)

(2) The Astoria has been recommended here as has the Atlântico and my friend recommends the Copacabana Sol. Does anyone have any strong preferences or dislikes of these hotels (I would like to be able to bring guests back without too much hassle and I know it shouldn't matter but it does (to them), my guests are usually lighter skinned or european looking). I don't have many dollars too spend either.

(3)Who else will be there? stil waiting on my friend Louis from Washington to respond to my e-mails (the bugger better not be there already)

(4)Where is Yan nowadays? (formerly of Rogers and yet to meet his aquiantance) and are the "Twins" still at Estacio? (Also yet to meet their acquiantances)

(5) When I was there last time I met a guy who whilst not my type sexually was my type for chatting to and generally spending some time with (he spoke english which helped). Now I know better than to throw money around and spoil the local economy but this guy sat with me every night I was at 117 and interpreted for me and was good company so I would give him some money for his time (easily over 2 hours a night). Now my point is that next time I would like to see some clubs and bars and generally have some company with me. It wont be a sexual company but if it was this guy, I would be depriving him of his evening's earnings. How much would be a reasonable sum to give him to take him out and spend an evening with him without sex? i will obviously pay for his drinks and a meal and give him the taxi fare home (and he will no doubt catch a bus) but what will he have lost in earnings? - from what I saw he wasn't earning too much in the club but he did wave a monster of a dick at me.

1) The gay beach in Copacabana is in front of the Excelsior Hotel at the foot of r. Fernando Mendes. The gay beach in Ipanema is at the foot of r. Farme de Amoedo. You'll know you're at the right place when the crowd suddenly seems to be all male and it's made up of guys who look like they could be "friends of Dorotea's." The beer stands with the rainbow flags are also give-aways! ;-)

2) The three hotels you mention are all reasonable. I've only stayed at the Astoria, which is fine. When you check in tell them you'll be having "visitors" to your room. They charge you extra for the privilege. I still say you're better off seeing your new friends at a "motel" or sauna. But that's a personal choice. Of the three hotels, the Astoria is the closest to the gay beach, I think. Just walk down r. República do Peru, which is the street the hotel is on, to the beach and turn left. The gay beach is two or three blocks from there. Another poster likes the Atlântico. It's very close to Roger's and Estação, a bit farther, but still within walking distance, from the gay beach. (About five or six blocks to the left, once you reach Av. Atlântica.)

3) When you consider that the going rate at the saunas is R$50 for what usually ends up being approximately half an hour, just multiply that by the number of clients a guy is likely to have in a night to figure out what would be an appropriate amount to pay an escort who spends an evening out with you. I think R$150 - R$200 is more than enough, considering that a lot of guys only pick up one or two clients, particularly on a slow night. In fact, I'd say R$200 is tops, considering you'd also be paying for meals, drinks, transportation and admissions. Considering that the minimum MONTHLY wage in Brazil is R$200, he'll have earned that in one night! Free and clear! And when you reflect on the prices of other things in Rio, like meals, bus fares, etc., you can see that R$200 is a significant sum of money.

4) It would be disappointing if you didn't find Yan or the twins on your trip, but the great thing about Rio and Brazil is that there are so many more where they come from! :9
