On the 28th I am off to Puerto Villarta for a week in what is described as Mexico's most gay friendly city. As many of you may remember, I had my heart set on Rio this October but the offer of a free condo (Sheraton)on the beach was too good to pass up. From my research, I am expecting a great time. A good portion of the tourist infrastructure caters to the gay client, hotels, bars, tours etc.

There is a gay beach right in the center of things (Playa de los Muertos or Beach of the Dead). There are two beach bars that offer chairs/umbrellas/drinks/food/boys. One is called the Blue Chairs and the other is the Green Chairs. Make friends with your waiter, let him know your "interests" and soon you will be visited by various guys.

We are staying at the Sheraton Bouganvillas which is a very big property with over 600 units. I will have my own one bedroom condo and a rental car. The hotel policy is that guests are allowed, but I will still be very discreet. If there is a problem, we (my friend George who convinced me to go to PV with him) plan to rent a "trick room" at one of the numerous gay hotels.

There are numerous bars, with male strippers that really look fun. Also, the restaurant scene seems to be very developed. Many of the gay owned restaurants draw rave reviews, even from straight tourist guides. There are so many interesting restaurants that we will have a hard time narrowing our choices.

Puerto Villarta is located on the second largest bay in the America's and to this day is still fairly isolated. It is a city of 250,000 people that rely strictly on tourism. There are several gay owned and operated tours that take you both to the sea (sailboat day trips to isolated parts of the bay) and the jungle. PV is surrounded by a tropical forest, with many things to do and see. There is a new attraction called the Tarzan Adventure. A Swiss company has run cables over a mile of tropical forest canopy, allowing people to get a birds eye view as you swing through the trees on a cable harness.

Upon my return I will report on my adventure. Here are some of the web sites that you can check out.

The following site is for Mexico City. It has an escort section that will make a side trip to Mexico City interesting: Click on Paco the photographer and go to galleries, then to Especialis.

Big Daddy, well happy hunting! Green Chairs / Blue Chairs had a dull 'lot' when I was there in January. Also, the only bar for rentboys is the BolaBar at a hotel right off the beach from Green Chairs, with a very poor selection and a chiuaua dressed up in chaps. Please do report!!

I agree with the other two posters, the "rentboy" scene was limited to two guys who were always around the "blue Chair area" becasue no one seemd to want them! the night life at the 4 bars that are close together was fun(Los Balcones was the busiest)we had fun there not because of the local scence but because of the Americans we met there! We met three guys from S.F. at a Lobster house restaurant the first night and 2 guys from Denver and we had a great time (non sexual) with them through the week. I am afraid that if you are going for sex and or hustlers you will be dissappointed. Unless it has changed alot in the last two years. You will enjoy the scenerey and the jungle trips and boat trips are worth it. We rented a jeep to drive into the jungle and that was fun until we got back to town, then when we turned on to the street that was two blocks from the jeep rental facility, a cop stopped out car and said we were going the wrong way on a one way street!(nveve mind the fact that all the cars parked on the street were facing the same way as we were driving and there were NO signs indicating it was a one way(it wasn't) this guy and his partner both carrying M16's and were insisting we drive to the courthouse, if we didn't pay them the fine whcih ws $200. American. The car rental place, "yeah they do that all the time" like it's no big deal! I decided then that there are alot of tropical places(like Hawaii) that are just as pretty and the law is not quite as lasless, and that if you are going to go to chance a third world country at least the chanse of sex is greater, or in Brazil's case, MUCH greater. Cancun and Cabo San Lucas were not like this, but also don't have the scenery that P.V. does, they also don't have much of a gay scence, so if that's your thing, bring your own sex partner with you.

I have basically resigned myself to a vacation experience that probably will not include massive sex. We are however both fluent in Spanish so that may help a bit. Also, good restaurants tend to have a calming effect on me. I have decided to skip the car rental and simply use taxis.

I will post my experience.

I can't wait to hear more about your trip, I'll be in Puerta Vallarta for several events this November. It will be my first trip there in many, many years, and the last time was with our Mothers, so besides a hasty drink at "Paco Paco" (which we were able to find almost too easily, because everyone in town thought that was where we were going anyways), we didn't get to explore, though we managed a daily hike down the beach, past the blue chairs, which were never disappointing. Because of the situation, we mostly did gallery shopping, found quite a bit of very colorful pottery. Hope you have a great time...I liked the Cafe de Artists (sp?) for a good dinner...
