Rio Saunas -- Quick Update

It's summer in Rio and hot, hot, hot. Men included! Little has changed from the information in the semi-world-famous Brazilian Saunas review (see Escorts Outside USA section for that). A few notes:

 

Club 117 doesn't operate Mondays. Roger's and Estacao (sorry, don't know how to do accents on this keyboard) operate seven days.

 

The cabines at Club 117 have air conditioning, which is something to think about this time of year. Tues. and Weds. they have a "free cabine" promotion but they don't turn on the a/c when the cabines are free. (Brazil has been in the middle of an energy crisis, with rationing and high electricity rates to discourage use. This should be ending in February, though.) If you want a/c, I'll bet if you offer to pay for the cabine they'll turn the a/c on. Lots of guys, of all types, and I left a very happy camper. If there's a short, cute little hunk wearing a backwards baseball cap named Marcelo (from Curitiba), with a big dick and a twinkle in his eye, don't overlook him! Really knows what he's doing, came TWICE while I was with him, and couldn't have been more attentive and charming! There's other

 

Forgot to bring the card with the exact address, but Estacao, the newest bath, is on r. Tonelero at number 217(?), practically at the corner of r. Figuereido Magalhaes. The facade is sort of a mustard yellow, and the name is on the outside. It's located right across the street from what will be the new Siqueira Campos metro station, which is currently under construction. Tonelero is the innermost main avenue in Copacabana (parallel to the ocean). Estacao is an old house; the place isn't very large but manages to hold a good selection of guys. I went with a friend from NY who was in Brazil for the first time. He felt a bit put off by the place at first (he'd already been to Club 117) but soon recovered and got right in the swing of things. Twice!

 

Roger's, which is the mother of them all, looks like it was trying to undergo renovations when it got caught by the electricity rationing. It's fine, but looks a bit tatty at the moment. I'm sure that when they finish fixing it up it'll look perfectly fine again. The dry sauna was off, to save electricity, but the steam was a real experience! (This is true at some of the other baths, too, during the power crisis.) All this notwithstanding, Roger's still had some hot guys in attendance. So it's just a matter of shopping around, gentlemen!

 

At the current rate of exchange (US$1 = R$2.40) it's indecent to haggle. R$50, the going rate, equals US$20. And, when you compare R$50 to other prices in Rio, like restaurant meals, bus and taxi fares, etc., you'll see that it's a reasonable rate. If a guy manages to go with two clients in a night he's done OK. So pack your summer gear and head for Rio! It's still the sexiest place on earth!

Well, Trilingual has talked me into it again. I went last Oct., because of his reviews on Brazilian Suanas and am going back again this April. Just returned from Rio and I will echo the sentiments of others that it is a Disneyland for Men at the Saunas. I went Friday to Club117 and found the selection of men incredible. 18-30, short-tall, light, medium and dark skinned , slim to musclebound. I arrived at 530pm and there were about 40 -50 available and it increased as the night went on.I returned there on Saturday and Sunday. I did make a stop at Estaco on Saturday night, but going in the door the selcetion of men available could not even have gotten into Club117 with their looks so I left. Who knows inside they may have been great, but I just decided not to accept 2nd best and so returned to Club117.

 

On Monday, Club 117 is closed so I tried SPA 73. It is difficult to find and you might have to have the taxi driver call but it is worth it. Keep in mind this was Monday and they had some of the most beautiful men I have ever seen. On average they were probably a little younger then Club117 and a little more twinky but that's what I like. I went back the next day , just before going to the airport.

 

You do have to be careful and make sure the object of your lust will do the things you like. English is hardly spoken at all but you can get across what you need to know.

 

From my somewhat limited conversations, I would say your chances of finding a Top are better then a Bottom, but there are plenty of both available. They all will kiss and most passionately. It will be harder for you to find someone who really gives a good blow job. Most love getting themm but are not enthusiastic about giving them. Of course there are exceptions and if this is important to you then make sure you establish it before hand. There's more in the saunas, but there will also be some guys who rent their services at the beach in Copacabana. In fact, you may see some of the same guys who work at the baths at the beach in the morning, before they go to work at the saunas. There should be guys around in July; a lot of students are on vacation and some need to earn some extra cash to pay for their holidays! After the beach (and in Brazil's winter the sun goes down behind the buildings on Copacabana fairly early) you can go cruise the gay Rainbow Kiosk, directly in front of the Copacabana Palace hotel, or the sidewalk cafe at Maxim's.

I am leaving for Rio on thurs. 4/4 through the 12th(first time was last Oct.) and will definitly check out the two new saunas listed, Spa 73 and Meio Mundo, and send a indepth report from the field this weekend! I agree with previous reviewers that 117 is hard to beat for the wide selection, but Rogers is a close second!

Tri, are you sure Meio Mundo has boys for "rent", couldn't find anything on it. Also, when i was there in Oct., LaBoy didn't have rent boys, but i heard recently that it has now, any info on that?

Tomcal: Meio Mundo advertises as having "boys," so it definitely is one of the saunas with escorts. I haven't heard anything recently about the sauna at LeBoy, but I could certainly believe there might be some rentable guys around. I posted a review which included Le Boy after my trip in Nov. (2001) At that time, there were no rent boys at Le Boy. It was a nice, clean, small sauna above the disco. I think you paid 20 reais for direct entry (and entry to the bar for free) or 10 to enter the bar and another 10 to go from the bar to the sauna. The purpose of the sauna seemed to permit men to connect in the disco and have sex without having to leave. For that, it was very convenient. But as of November there were no rent boys.

Almost everything has been said about Rio's Saunas and I owe much to this forum because - thanks to the guys who share information with others - I discovered a wonderful city I fell in love with.

 

Here are a couple of remarks I bring back from my second stay in Brazil :

- Low season vs High season : in low season (except week-ends at night) , be aware that - in a place like Roger's - the number of visitors is often much smaller than the number of escorts ( at 8 to 1 ). In fact, in early afternoon, you may find out that you are the only visitor while a bunch of 10-12 guys are desperatly in search of a "meeting". At first, you'll have many reasons to find this situation appealing : you are certain to spend time with whom you like best, you have plenty of time to talk with the guys before and after the dirty thing, and - for those who like to bargain ( not me ) - you may expect to spare a few bucks.

Later maybe, you'll find the situation less comfortable : in a tiny sauna like Roger's where there is no place to cut oneself off from the crowd, I often felt weary of being sollicited. Reading quietly a newspaper, sipping a drink or just relaxing after a hot session are things which can prove difficult.

High season in Rio is rather short : it starts in december and ends after Carnival (from what they say).

Low season is perfect to organize things outside of the saunas (visiting the city or going to the beach with your favorite lover).

 

- Rio vs Sao Paulo : it is quite true that Sao Paulo's saunas are more comfortable than Rio's saunas. They are crowded all the year round and the guys are very handsome. For those of you who are more specifically attracted by bodybuilders, I would say that Rio offers a little bit more than Sao Paulo.

 

Once again, be warned that Brazilians (the boys you meet in those saunas) DO NOT speak English.

 

Now, if anybody has updated information to share about saunas in Salvador and Natal, I would be very grateful.

Hi Guys, well i am in Rio(brought my laptop) been here for 2 days and thought i would give an update to my review from last Oct. First let me say again that i can never thank Trilingual enough for posting that first review in 2000 about Brazilian Sauanas!! that's what got my friends and myself to go here last Oct.

So far(2nd day) i have been to Rogers and Club 117, the last reviewer is right as far as the odds, it's about 10 to 1 boys to clients at Rogers and about 5 to 1 at 117 on Friday night(personally i don't have a problem that he had, i am friendly but tell the ones i am not interested in I am not interested in going to a Cabine right now, and they will leave you alone to have your drink, unless you want them rubbing your back while you sit at the bar :-)). The good news is things havent' changed since Oct., if anything a little better. Alot of the same boys and quite a few new ones. I took pictures at both suanas and will post them here when i get back, along with the names and pertinent info., all the boys today wanted their pics taken, another comment regarding the last reviewer, i don't speak Portuguese or Spanish, and he's right most of the boys dont' speak English, but i have never had a problem getting them to understand what i want or them me. at each suana i have found at least one guy to translate if it was really necessary. At Rogers, "Apollo"(i took his pic)speaks English, is a really nice guy, with a "killer" body. I have been with 7 guys since yesterday and all Kiss unbeliveably well!!!, all suck, and 4 were willing to bottom! More updates this week!

Sat. night/Sunday morning update 4/13----I went to both Rogers and Club 117 today/night(I get here and i turn into a sex pig!) In a word "Unbelieveable". Club 117 had a huge crowd tonight because of stripper show with strippers from Sao Paulo, you couldn't get into the bar it was so crowded( so i found a boy and a empty room-:9 )

I went to Estacion last night. It is only about 6 blocks from Roger's, and closer to the hotels and beach then Rogers. Maybe my expectations were low, but I was impressed, very clean, has two tv rooms, one small for 6 - 8 and one large, a bar area that was about the size of Rogers', and another sitting area next to the bar, also a small sitting room upstairs, by the rooms. This was a Monday night and there were at least 20 boys there, about 4-5 big muscle types, and 10 - 12 nicely toned "gymnest/swimmer types and 3 - twink types. All and all as good a selection as 117 and better then Rogers on Monday(i went there afterwards) The rooms are small but adequent, but for some strange reason they play stright porn on the tv's in the rooms!! I thought this must be for the "gay for pay" boys but as i watched i don't think so. I met two English speaking boys as i was changing, and they took me on a tour of the place, showed me the rooms(there are showers both up and down)

Today "Anderson" from club 117 showed up at my hotel at 9:00 this morning, miscommunication, supposed to be 9:00 tonight, but we made the best of it, he came up to the room and stayed until 3:00 GREAT!

The Hotel was the Marriott! high security(obviously not great security, I also did it last night!) The first time i had Anderson from 117 meet me in the lobby and then we walked up the stairs to the restaurant, it seems all Rio hotels have their restaurants on the second floor, security was watching but anyone can come to eat there so they don't say anything, but when we walked up the stairs we just caushgt the elevator and went up to the room from there!! Have done that several times. The one boy, who is Rodrigo, from Estacio sauna(i think now my favorite sauana here)has spent two nights with me, from midnight to noon, both times, and he said "let me handle it." What he did both times is enter the hotel a minute or two before me, this was around midnight, and walk right through the lobby with no hesitation and looking straight ahead. With the attitude of a guest, they just assumed he was one, as he didn't look down, didn't act shy or nervous, etc. BTW, he lived in So. Cal. for a year and went to UCLA, so he speaks English, and is very, very sexy. If any of you guys go there, definitly meet him. The other two guys that came up, together, called me on the lobby phone i went down, greeted them and just started walking to the elevator, two security guards were watching but did nothing. Also, since mostly Americans stay here, and right now their is i would say about 20-25 African Americans staying here, they dont' seem to pay attention to skin color the way the other Rio hotels do. Although in the case of all of the boys i have brought back they have been very light colored.

About the Marriott. It is very nice, very American, definitly a 5 star. All the amenities Americans expect. One very good standard fare restaurant and one sushi restaurant on the second floor. The roof top pool and fitness center have incredible views of Copa. It is situated about in the center of copa beach. the cross street is Rua Magdalaha(sp.?) which also happens to be the closest cross street to Estacio sauana!! just walk about 6 blocks in from the beach/hotel to Tonelero turn right 100 feet and your there. I went there last night again and there was about 20 boys there on a Weds, night and they had a gogo boy/ impersonator show at 10:00 that got a crowd.

For those of you who have the inclination to Top!, i have found that every guy so far that says he's only "Activo, no passivo" changes his mind as soon as he is away from his buddies and is in the room!! I met a gorgeous guy last night, i think overall the best face and body at any of the 3 places(I know that's a bold statement)and i had not gone with him before because my friend Rodrigo said he is only a top.
