I recently upgraded my Gaydar status from "Guest" to "member" so I could use the 'advanced search' feature. This offers you the chance to fill in lots of boxes about who you are looking for, e.g. ethnic origin, height, weight, age etc. I was quite surprised to find when I'd ticked all my boxes that the result came up 'No matches'. So I went through it again and tried to be a little less choosy. Still 'No matches'. So I went through it again being even less choosy. Same result. Eventually I ticked just about every box, indicating that I was interested in anyone in England, any ethnic origin, active or passive, any height, fat or thin, any age up to 99 etc. For this I got 14 matches. I sent Gaydar an email with my comments about this but they never replied.

Does anyone know how to make this feature work properly? Also, I was led to believe by a previous poster on this site that 'members' can view more than 2 tiny thumbnail pictures at a time while searching. Not true.

I've said it before, I think the GaydarUK site is crap, badly designed, difficult to navigate, and now it seems it doesn't even work properly.

I am not sure what you are doing wrong, but I usually see approx. 30 thumbnails w/pics at a time. Log on the the city you want to view and then click thumbnails. I have used gaydar.co.uk for the past 2-1/2 years and like it better than any other site for dating/hooking up. They have a "escort section", I havent' used it but when I looked it appeared that the vast majority are in in London, so if you are using the site to meet escorts, except for London, it's not very useful. I have met alot of guys in L.A., NYC, Miami, London and Rio off of this site. I havent' used the advanced search, so I can't comment. I find it much easier to just go to the city and view the guys online at that time, and you can set up the thumbnails to show different stats that are important to you, i.e. age, body type, top of bttm, cut or uncut, race, etc. That way without having to click on the complete profile you can rule out any guys that fall out of your preferred type. I got two dates this weekend off of it! }(

I just don't understand it, it's as if you were talking about a different website. Once I've logged in, I click on 'search by city' then once I've entered the city name the result comes up, for example '19 matches found', and they come up on the screen with tiny thumbnail pictures, and only 2 in view at a time so you have to carefully scroll through to see all of them. I can't find any option to display more info about the particular people to save you having to go into each profile. I also tried 'quick search' which seems to give more results but still only with the tiny thumbnails, 2 at a time. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

My experience is, alas for you, the OPPOSITE of what you report.

 

I find gaydar the best site for getting dates as well as finding working guys. Certainly I have never had the difficulties you are having.

 

I can only suggest 2 thoughts:

 

1. is it your browser? and how you format it?

2. have you inadvertently checked the box to see guys who are online - most guys are online of an afternoon/evening in UK time

 

Normally, I use the Power search option. But I have also used with success the function reported by Tomcal.

Since your experience is unlike anybody else's, you must either be making an error in your search or your PC is incorrectly set up.

 

As well as not checking the box that only displays those on line, you should be careful to change the city/country you are searching. There is a link marked in red to do this. You CANNOT simply pull down the city from the select box and then press search. As this is a complex database search facility, your selection stays as the default until you change it again. If you see your home area (the base default) and have to change it to another every time you log on, you are doing it wrong.

 

The site seems to work better with Internet Explorer rather than Netscape or its variations and I have IE set up to surf it. I believe there are coding difficulties if say you have pop-ups turned off. You also need to make sure your browser and the java add-ins are up to date. If I remember correctly, earlier versions of Netscape with their software meant you had problems logging in but not those you describe.

 

The cause of your display problems may be down to your computer sharing memory between the processor and display although it is unlikely you are so short of memory it cannot display a longer list of results. You also make a strange comment, you say to see the other results you have to scroll down which suggests the results are being sent to your pc as one page but it is being displayed strangely. This can happen with the escorts section where you can ask for all the details of each escort to be shown. If you check all, it might need two lines to display them all. As the thunbnails are roughly 6x6 characters, the "next line" is on line 7. If you had to go on to a new page of results you would not "scroll down", you would have to click a link.

 

The thumbnails are just that and your upgraded membership allows you to click through to see the full details for as many as you want. Unless guys have messed up their submission, the pictures will be full size. What's the problem?

 

Finally, I believe this is the second time I have seen the same comments on here, whether the previous posting was from you I cannot remember. Why have you not contacted the Gaydar help team via the "info and Support" option or by sending an email to support@gaydar.co.uk with your user name rather than whinge on here?

 

Do you have a grudge with them or a financial interest in a rival site that leads you to keep raising the same problem in an attempt to put people off using that service?

I'm very pleased with gaydar and I find it an excellent page for

hook-up's, either escorts or regular guys.

Very interesting is the feature that members can publish when they travel to a foreign place/city.

So if you stay at home and browse through the profiles of guys visiting your hometown and seeing his and your profile match,

e-mail them .... I already had two very decent/hot guys at my home

... and I'm only a member of gaydar since less than 2 months!

 

Highly recommended for Europe!

It's a pity that it seems that as soon as I try to raise a constructive critisism of something on a forum that I believe exists for that purpose, someone else immediately assumes I have an ulterior motive. I have not.

 

I had another go with the 'Advanced search' I'd already entered my home area correctly, and I still can't get it to find a single match, even if I say I'm interested in just about anybody.

I altered my screen settings to 1024 x 768, and this changed things a little so that, for example, if I click on 'search by city' then enter my city, the pages of results now come up in a format that has three in view at a time, rather than two. However, the thumbnails have become even smaller. I stand by my view that the very tiny thumnails and small amount of info in view at any one time is due to poor page layout. Nearly a third of the available screen, on the left, is permanently occupied by the 'assistant' area, and there is no option to minimise this. Of that which remains, the headings 'Gaydar.co.uk', 'Search results' 'Search options', and then underneath the results box 'Designed by qsoft consulting etc...' take up about half. I just think it could be better, that's all. If no-one else agrees with me, fair enogh.

Man I dont' know what you are doing, but I am on right now and it doesn't take up 1/2 the page! I than click on Thumbnails, you then get a list of cities, pick your city and you click on view list!

the assistant is small box in the upper left side of the screen. Hope this helps, but definitly ask their tech support for help. I belong to Men4Men, adam4adam and I definitly think this site is the best for dating/hooking up.
