No, Bryan, ... actually I never heard your name taken in vain. If we stick to the topic, and not to personalities, James asked a good question on the right or wrong, or etiquette of tipping. In the context of Europe, while it may not be expected in a serious sense, it might still be considered polite to do such for a good escort.

 

The amount can be up to the individual. If you are on an extended escort (over 2 or 3 hours), which would include a meal (which you pay for), drinks perhaps, maybe visits to a museum or some concert, going to a bar or disco or whatever, recalling YOU, the client, are paying for two people all along, the "tip" can be minimal, if even necessary.

 

One thing is not to make yourself out to be richer or wealthier than you are... as you can set yourself up.

 

I tip following advice my Dad gave me years ago. He taught me to see tipping as a sign of not only recognition but of appeciation for a task well done. I have tipped well - and I have not even left a tip on many occasions.

For instance, does Dutch law require medical exams and regular blood tests? If these exams and tests are not required by Dutch law, are they required by Michael's? Contrary to popular belief, prostitution in the Netherlands is illegal. (It will be officially legalized in January 2001.) Up until now, the Dutch government has simply tolerated AND taxed the industry. Therefore, there are no regulations regarding the health of an escort.

In my initial interview with Bertram of Michael’s Boys, he briefly explained practicing safe sex, and encouraged me to be vaccinated for Hepatitis-B. In addition, the chauffeurs for the agency always carried condoms in their vehicles.

In regards to your question, the GG & GD is a government-sponsored hospital system that provides physical examinations at a reduced cost. For my own safety, I had an STD check-up every three months. I suspect that most of the boys working in Amsterdam were NOT as religious in this matter. In their defense, however, I do not believe that many escorts would engage in unsafe sex. My colleagues would often use a condom when performing oral sex, and would even refuse to kiss.

Thank you for your remarks about STD avoidance in Amsterdam. It seems as if you are saying that the escorts are more less on their own when it comes to avoiding disease. I am a little surprised by this. I guess I assumed there were Dutch government medical regulations in place, and if not by the government, then by Bertram and Michael's. Something to think about.

 

Does your advice--always use a condom--apply to oral as well? Did you give and receive oral without a condom if that was what the client wanted? If you did, you must have felt it was safe enough.

 

And one more thing. As mentioned in these discussions before, where in Amsterdam can one do S & M? We are aware of the S & M room at the Blue Boy and the Black Tulip Hotel, but are there other SM playroom for rent?

While there are conflicting American and European studies regarding transmission of HIV through oral sex, I tend to believe that my clients want the 'real McCoy'. Does not sound typicial of Bertram at all to me. He's very staightforward and honest always. Also, why are you making this generalisation that things will be better in the USA? They usually are not. Compared to Europe, US escorts may be just as good perhaps, but certainly overpriced. Try again, Bertram has never steered me wrong.
