Some days ago there was a comment about people who correct someone else's posting. Such correcting, or expectation of perfect grammar/spelling is not really significant in the context of this site.

The response was great, saying that there are many people using this site, varying degrees of education, and from other countries. This is supposed to be for leisurely fun and some sharing.

Personally, I find insulting when someone publically corrects a grammatical slip in public, or even internet-public. It only brings more attention to the slip. It doesn't make the other look smarter, only boorish perhaps.

It is the purpose of message boards to have comments back and forth, opposing views, etc. But, they should counter against a thought, idea, or opinion.

One reason (of many) why my ex is my ex were his constant corrections. At first I let it slide. Then I would purposely use adjectives vs. adverbs, and incorrect noun-verb agreement, and definate and indefinate pronouns. Think he got the point, and he posed a question he had. Said in his class, one student remarked he was offended when he was corrected publically. My ex thought was right thing to do, trying to help this poor soul get over his use of double negatives.

I told my ex, is rude to do that in front of others. You just humilate him, and make yourself look pretentious. If the grammatical error was so offensive, you should have spoken to him privately. True, a college guy should have better grasp of bacic English, but at this point you are too late in trying to fix any defects.

Thank you for raising this point. I also get extremely aggravated at those who post to a topic merely to point a typo or slight grammatical snafu. Who hasn't typed "there" when he/she meant "their". Or hasn't typed "form" when they meant "from". Spellcheck/grammarcheck doesn't always pick up these egregious faux pas. I say let them ride. However, DCeBoy delights in pointing them out. As I have said earlier, he needs a day job or more cleints to keep himself busy. What with his ten inch cock that he has advertised on another thred, clients should be lined up at his door!!

HooBoy - can we get a spellcheck utility added to the message center??

hmmm... my correcting grammar (which, of course is only done out of a genuine altruism) is wrong, but it is right for you to publicly rebuke me for doing so?

when i correct someone, it is "boorish" but, if you correct me, you're somehow performing a mitzvah for humanity?

if you'd like to explain the logic of this dichotomy, i'm BREATHLESS with anticipation.

i haven't advertized ANYTHING.

my 10" comment was PERFECTLY germane to the thread in which i made it.

do i indicate WHICH dc escort i am? no!

do i point people to my website in my postings? no!

why? because i'm not advertizing my services when i contribute to the message boards. i'm simply contributing.

there are escorts who DO include reference to their services. i have no problem with that. we each make choices for ourselves.

before you accuse me of advertizing, please take the 2 seconds required to at least get your facts (if, indeed, you have any) in order.

FURTHERMORE...

WHY--in the name of EVERYTHING that is sanctified and holy--are you so terrifically concerned with my free time & the number of clients that i have????? EACH comment you make to or about me indicates an unhealthy obsession with my client base.

<SLAP!>

Both of you! Go to bed without dessert! RIGHT NOW!

I can alomst HEAR Daddy getting angry, and we don't like Daddy when he's angry. (shaking head no no no no no :-))

You boys should take your antagonism with each other offline and either resolve it or agree not to resolve it. But you should definitely stop taking potshots at each other in the public forum here.

You're adding nothing and detracting A LOT.

To get back TO THE POINT OF THIS POSTING, I agree with cp8036 (his parents must have hated him to give him THAT moniker) that grammar and spelling mistakes are only an issue if they interfere with understanding.

Correcting them is not in good form BY ANYONE.

(Let's stop these spats and stick to the topic.)

DC: Think that what posters are gently reminding you to do is to take a deep breath (and think) before you post. Sometimes the hand is quicker than the brain. Of course, if you don't mind appearing boorish...

Boys, Boys, Boys.....pull those wedgies out of your cracks.

Christ, by now DCescortBOY, yours must have a permanent crease.

That said, I don't think that there is anything wrong with correcting the grammar and/or spelling in someone else's post. Personally, I try to use spell check (which is excellent) and grammar check (which is basically useless) on every post before I send it. I consider that common courtesy. And yes, I still make mistakes.

This is a public forum and if you post here you have to be ready to deal with whatever response you get. While I agree that correcting split infinitives may seem "boorish", I find it educational. I'm not smart enough to even notice them.

Until you identify your weakness and try to improve upon them, you will never live up to your fullest potential. It doesn’t matter if you made the mistake because you were in a hurry, English is your 25th language, it was a simple typographical error, or you just never understood dangling prepositions in the first place. It's a chance to learn...for all of us.

The Internet and computers have changed many things in the world for the better, including the English language. However, I disagree with the idea that the Internet has somehow "freed" us of the responsibility to try and use the language to the best of our ability.

P.S. Feel free to correct me for whatever mistakes I made in the above post. I am ready to learn.

May I correct this paragraph? Just kidding! I'm one of those guys who, when asked "Can I ask you a question?" answers "You just did!" But I also take criticism well. You stated that one of the reasons we should avoid correcting people is that English may be a second (or third) language. Especially when I'm speaking a foreign language, I appreciate being corrected. Otherwise I keep making the same stupid mistakes.

For example, I was with a patient and her sister-in-law recently. I was trying to figure out if they were related, and I asked "Son relaciones?" They corrected me, and informed me that I asked them if they were having sex. Well, that's an extreme example, but a milder one was my patient who informed me that when I asked how her husband was "Como esta su esposo?", that I was being too informal ("Como esta su marido?" is better, I learned). I could have thought "What nerve to correct me when I'm making an effort to speak Spanish!" Instead, I appreciated the education and thanked her.

When someone corrects me, I can look at it as a slight or as an educational gift. I choose to view it in the latter manner. Of course, this does not mean that it's necessary to point out obvious typographical errors. Nevertheless, some people would be grateful to learn how to spell "definite." And I don't agree that it's too late to learn something once you're in college. At least I hope it's not to late to learn in college!!

And I'm sure jealous of anyone who has so many eligible men after him that he can dump guys because they correct his grammar (although I know there was more to it that)...
