I wanted to check Costa Rica out for retirement later on. Any info on San Jose or beach area regarding escorts, gay life,etc. in case I can go in April, but do not want to feel alone.

I do know that real estate in Costa Rica is pretty favorable right now, if THAT is where you want to retire. Or even use it as a base to explore the rest of South America.

What information there is about Costa Rica on M4M is mostly found in the Escorts South of the U.S.A. board. Use the "search" function WITHIN that board to find posting about Costa Rica.

 

While physically beautiful, there is not a big commercial sex scene in Costa Rica. There are undoubtedly some boys available (like strippers at gay bars in San José) but there's nothing like the scene in some other countries. Costa Rica suffers from the "small country" syndrome: in a country with a small population everyone knows (or is related) to everyone else, and knows all their business within 5 minutes of it happening. As a result, the gay scene in such countries tends to be low-key and very discreet.

 

If you're looking for a retirement home in a tropical Spanish-speaking country where there are escorts, try the Dominican Republic, which seems to have an active scene. Of course, you could also consider Argentina or Spain, where there are plenty of escorts. Brazil is the epicenter of escort activity in the Latin world, but it's not Spanish-speaking, of course. Anyway, this will give you some food for thought!

My lover and I went there for vacation this past November and we are going again at the end of the month. Costa Rica is incredible...shoot me an email if you have any questions. I booked our package through http://www.gay-costarica.com. The travel agent, Sergio, was first class...took us to "Puchos" in San Jose. Puchos is your neighborhood Tico stripper bar, where you are greeted by friendly, naked Tico boys who looked like they were working as well as dancing. We saw tons of wildlife (you are 100% guaranteed at least 3 monkey sightings while in Manuel Antonio), did a horseback riding tour, did the "ziplines" and rappelling above the rainforest canopy, and lounged at the beach of course. The people are friendly and laid back, and the gay scene is nice. The 2 gay bars in Manuel Antonio are kinda low key...if you want any disco life you have to head into Quepos to the straight-but-gay-friendly disco (the name escapes me). Super cheap dining too...dinner for 2 w/ wine and desert was about US$27. The exchange rate when we were there last was 455 colones to US$1. Let me know if you have any other questions.
