Its got to be some type of kick back or sponsorhip thing that helps them pay for there site. THe site are getting more and more expensive. HooBoy Helps but they still need some type of advertisement. SO anyhow GUess we could all boycott them and see how long it works. But the more we pay the more it goes on whether its the price of massage, escort or some type of verification system.

I am amazed at how many different adult verification systems that guys require on their websites. Why cannot they just chose one like AdultCheck?

I refuse to pay for all these different sites. Today I check a guys site which required another new one I have never heard of, Netverification, and I do not intend to pay any more money to any of these sites to get in.

Do you agreee with this? If so, let them all know to standardize their verification systems, that is if they really want our contacts/buz!!!

One word answer is "MONEY" If you already belong to ManCheck and all the sites use ManCheck then how can they continue to receive additional revenue from the same consumer? They can't! I subscribe to one only and will not subsicribe to any other. Including these free adult verification checks that some escorts are using like Adam in Las Vegas. They are free yet sure collect a lot of information, including your credit card number, WOW! And yes, the web site gets MONEY from your subscription.

It will NEVER change. Well, as long as there is MONEY to be made.

The thing that really pisses me off are the verification systems where you subscribe, pay your $$$, and then they come after you for more $$$ to get you to subscribe to their Adultcheck "GOLD" service which will obstensibly give you access to even hotter sites. The whole thing is a gigantic rip.

And something I would never do is give my cc# to anyone who claims they will not charge anything to it but only need it to verify that you are over 21. Yah right!

Ironically, several years ago Playgirl (I guess a well known & respected publication) insisted on a credit card for age verification only. I am not certain if this is still their practice. I just found it to be a little too extreme for me :)

The so-called free AVS's will usually charge you UNLESS you cancel the "other half of the deal." This means you still get the free AVS but you have to cancel or there is recurring billing (typically a month or so) for a premium service that they hide way down deep in the small print and you never noticed. In some cases, you are charged immediately--even though it said in big type FREE! Some give you a month to opt out--of something that you're most likely unaware of. It's unacceptable business practice, plain and simple.

I don't upset easily, but I apparently did on this one and I never put in the dollar amount... it's supposed to read $30-40 a month or so.

Have fun!

Sadly, Playgirl.com used the credit card information to hijack people's credit cards. Anyone (myself included)who fell for their "we need your credit card information in order verify your age" bullshit wound up having their credit card billed to the tune of $45 a month. It was very difficult to stop the charges. (The 1-800 number on the credit card statement was for an outside billing service who got caught in the middle. (A supervisor told me that they were getting a lot of nasty calls.) It took two months to stop the charges. (I disputed the charges with my credit card company. I'm guessing that they figured that most people would be too embarrassed to do that.) I'm not the only one who was victimized. (I read a post on another board that claimed that the poster had to cancel his credit card in order to end the nightmare.) The FTC wound up filing charges. Here's a link to a press release which outlines a procedure for filing a claim for a refund:

I learned the hard way -- never give out your credit card information in order to verify your age.

Playgirl.com had no relation at all to Playgirl Magazine, by the way.

It was 100% set up as a way to bilk lots of money from lots of people, trading on the public name of the magazine, and it worked.

Estimates I've seen put their income in the billions, yet the fines they were slapped with for credit card fraud were only in the millions. Somebody is laughing all the way to the bank.

Adult webmasters set up automatic billing and the reputable ones will stop when you tell them to. Others will just let it go on and on because they know that most people won't fight back.

The guys who ran thugcam.com said they had a server crash once and had to reset every member's password. All a member had to do was write and they'd get a new password. 3/4 of monthy paid members didn't, and were still being billed a year later when the site shut down with nary a whimper. Guys were just ignoring those monthly charges on their bills, I guess.

Did you let them know? If we email the webmaster everytime we are turned away for having the wrong AVS and tell him he lost a customer for that reason, things might change.x(

The one curious thing about the whole Playgirl.com fraud was that I never read or heard anything about Playgirl going after the website for copyright infringement or for the potential damage to Playgirl's reputation. I can't help but wonder if there was some sort of licensing agreement that ran amuck.

It *is* strange, but remember that Playgirl Magazine has *always* tried to keep a low profile. It's possible that stirring the pot by going after the website would have been worse than ignoring them.

As for advertising, your $ can buy you almost anything. :+ They may have initially viewed it as good publicity that they didn't have to do anything to generate.
