U.S. tennis open - Ben Shelton

I go to ESPN, and there's this very ripped guy on the front page yelling in victory whom I've never heard of. Evidently, he's the 5th best player in the world, and hot as fuck. I don't think I've ever seen such a muscular guy in the field of tennis before (well, Eddie Swaim in Palm Springs, but his ranking is likely somewhere in the low 900s, at best). I hope he takes it all, so I can see more of him.

The match between Shelton and Alcaraz last night lasted so long I fell asleep before it was over, so I didn't know who won. Shelton is the son of Brian Shelton, the college tennis instructor who is his coach and is always at his games. His mother is usually there, too. (His father is Black, his mother is White.) I have never thought he looked particularly muscular, although he is cute. This is the farthest he has ever gone at a slam, but I am sure you will continue to see a lot more of him as he rapidly ascends up the ranks.

Shelton’s monster upset over Alcaraz guarantees that an American is in the final (Maryland born & raised Frances Tiafoe awaits in the semifinal) and arguably more important, gives the USA a real chance to win a men’s Slam singles title for the first time since Andy Roddick’s victory at the US Open way back in 2001.

Because we got spoiled in the 1990s with 27 Slams won by Sampras, Agassi, Courier, and Chang, the 25-year drought since Roddick’s USO seems like a very long time.  Given the four men left on the other side of the draw, the winner of the Shelton-Tiafoe semifinal has an excellent chance of hoisting the trophy on Sunday, certainly a helluva lot better than if a healthy Jannick Sinner were awaiting.

Because of this @$&#ing tournament I have hit major traffic coming home from physical therapy after my last two appointments.  Every player involved in this terrible tournament should die a slow and painful death.
