A science experiment of entitlement - Treasure Island in LV

When I venture to Las Vegas to gamble, Treasure Island, or TI as the locals call it, is rarely on my radar. There's nothing special about it. I have a slot card from them, and they sent me an e-mail out of the blue which I ignored because it seemed like a scam. $200 in free play, just for stopping by the slot club between Monday and Wednesday. The promotion was to run for about 4 weeks. I ignored it. 

Two weeks ago, it was the story nobody would stop talking about. Lines nearly a half-day long of everyone wanting their share of the pie. There was no catch, so long as you were over 21, and not banned from gambling. What I found to be outrageous were the many hundreds of people on social media bragging about how much they got in cash from playing on the machines, and boasting about "not giving them back a penny". They weren't obligated to, but why be so brazen about being an asshole? The idea of course on the casino's end was to put at least a little of it back in the way of dining there, or at least grabbing a drink or snack. 

A different casino in Vegas I do frequent more often than others, the Tuscany, offered something similar to this many years ago, but only for current card-holders. Again, the offer looked too silly to be believable, so I didn't take the bait. The offer was cancelled shortly after it started, and the promotions manager was fired. 

When Wednesday night was winding down, and people in line were warned by security sternly (but naturally think rules can't possibly apply to them) that the booth closes at 1:00 a.m., and you run the risk of not getting seen. Fights broke out. Alas, I got a second e-mail that due to overwhelming response, the offer has ended, and will not continue the following Monday as advertised.

You're referring to the entire city, I assume.  How else do you describe a city in the desert that uses as much water as it does whilst contributing absolutely nothing to culture or humanity?
