First Trip to China, any tips?

Three weeks in October:  Hong Kong, Yangzhou, Beijing, Xian, Shanghai and Hangzhou.  Excited and also glad to get it done, China is such a BIG trip I've put it off for years.

I hope not. Escort scene there is virtually nonexistent, as far as I could tell and I assumed everything was heavily monitored. Best to concentrate on the food and culture offerings especially in and near Beijing -Great Wall, Forbidden City, Ming burial site, and the numerous shrines and temples. I enjoyed my visit v much. Shanghai is more like NYC, new, bright, clean with spectacular modern architecture.

Nope, this is the right place for all discussions about China as a destination, sightseeing and, ahem, other things. There is no assumption that the 'other' is part of what is of interest.
