PhillyCheese Posted Monday at 10:34 PM Posted Monday at 10:34 PM I have had three providers I was communicating with send me pictures or videos in Rentmen messaging. I didn’t ask for the pictures. I clicked on the picture the first provider sent and my screen flashed then the file opened up. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be a new thing.
BuffaloKyle Posted Monday at 10:42 PM Posted Monday at 10:42 PM Well if you're the one to initiate the conversation and are inquiring about their services they are showing you what they got basically trying to get you to make an appointment. I guess you could say at the beginning of an exchange with a provider please don't send me any additional pictures or videos. 🤷♂️ DMonDude and soloyo215 1 1
DMonDude Posted Monday at 11:37 PM Posted Monday at 11:37 PM (edited) Yeah it's pretty normal, maybe not something every provider does as most just put all their pics on the profile, but it's not new. A lot of the providers who have very few public profile pics or no face pics will instead send them in the RM DMs. He's just trying to entice you and get you to book. As far as your screen flashing before opening the pic... If the pic was in the RM message and just opened within the browser, that could just be your web browser having a UI glitch. That's not abnormal, i know for me Firefox on Mac starts acting funny if i go too long ignoring a browser update. I get parts of web pages that struggle to load or other UI elements don't render/act properly and it goes away once i close the browser and restart which installs the Firefox update. Have experienced the same on Chrome. But if they sent you an attachment you had to download to your computer, i'd be a bit more wary of that personally and i have not experienced that on RM. Photos can be displayed within the RM message/browser without needing to download to your computer, so there's no reason for them to send an attachment. So if they sent you an attachment you had to download and your screen flashed after opening a downloaded file. That would make me a bit more nervous something nefarious may have been attached to the photo file. Edited Monday at 11:39 PM by DMonDude Redwine56 and Jacob_b 1 1
Solution DMonDude Posted Monday at 11:45 PM Solution Posted Monday at 11:45 PM (edited) Actually i just double checked. I don't think you can send attachments that have to be downloaded on RM (unless it's a zip file maybe?). Any photos open within the browser (and not as a pop up window), and when i checked a message thread that had provider pics in it, they all did open with a blank page for like a split second before showing the pic. I think it's just a loading delay. They open instantly when i re-open them after that 🤷♂️ Edited Monday at 11:46 PM by DMonDude
PhillyCheese Posted Monday at 11:54 PM Author Posted Monday at 11:54 PM Thank you. I appreciate your help. I just wasn’t sure what was going on. It seems you can’t be too careful today. DMonDude 1
