I'm in a rage right now due to the grave incompetence over at ESPN. A team in the March madness tournament has ONE slot. ONE. Not two. They have a scrub school in a low spot twice in two different regions against two different opponents. How does nobody catch this before they go public with it?

A school I follow closely is a bubble school, but with this mistake, it messes up the entirety of every school at that number the mistake was made and below with confusion.

I know, first world problems, ha ha! I won't be watching the bracket show tomorrow as it's the same time as the Oscars.

i went to school in Buffalo which made the tournament and went to the Sweet 16 from the MAC about a decade ago.  This year they were mediocre, 17-14 they lost to Miami twice.  Once in overtime after Miami tied it on a last second shot and another time by a few points after leading most of the game.  There is something to be said for these smaller school going to the tournament, but they just do not have the players to win 7 games in a row over top notch basketball schools.  Miami made the tournament along with Akron from the MAC but they have to play a play in game to make the final 64, so that makes it 7 games.

Still, if a team can win 31 games in a row, they deserve a shot.  Also the Big 4 conferences will not place the better small conference schools on their schedule for fear of losing.  So they deserve a penalty for that kind of hide and seek scheduling.

I was surprised Miami (Ohio) lost.  IMO they still should be selected.  I predict they could go at least to the Sweet 16.

Welp... This is why I never bet on the games.  I don't even bother filling out a bracket.anymore.

Largely uninteresting thus far. Only High Point IS High Point, a double-digit seed winning, with VCU knocking out UNC as a minor upset. I'm bummed that Duke came back to win when they were trailing big. I think Little Ceasars gives away free pizza when a 16 seed beats a 1. That only happened once ever, and the irony there was the coach of the school didn't get fired and won a championship with the school the next season!

Is this not correct?

A No. 16 seed has defeated a No. 1 seed only
twice in the history of the men's NCAA tournament (since 1985), with top seeds holding a 162-2 record.
NCAA.com +2
  • 2018: UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) defeated Virginia, 74-54, marking the first-ever 16-over-1 upset.
  • 2023: FDU (Fairleigh Dickinson) defeated Purdue, 63-58.

You are correct. For whatever reason (sorry about the disrespect, FD fans) I don't remember that, but you're right. It's only happened once on the women's side with a 16 defeating a 1. I'm picking Purdue to go deep this year, with a very brief scare early in today's game, but I'm kicking butt overall.
