Still a nice looking guy but lots of age-shaving going on. He's definitely not 29. While he's still a handsome guy, I'd be disappointed when the daddy-ish guy in 7929V's posted photos opened the door rather than the guy in his masseurfinder ad.

RENTMASSEUR.COM

Gay Masseur MassagebyRENE in Los Angeles, CA offering a wide range of massages experienced in therapeutic, sensual, swedish, hotStone, deepTissue.

So, I went to see him today based on a previous (but closed) thread about him. Before I say anything  I want to acknowledge:
a) In the YMMV world, I know that I typically won't get good mileage.

b) Rene was really kind, polite, and I really like him and his tone - in person and in messaging.

c) Therapeutically, this is one of my favorite massages in LA area.

So, I reached out to him, he was friendly and prompt, and gave 2 90 minute options - $300 for therapeutic, $400 sensual. In spite of the price being what I felt to be steep, I decided to go for it based on the reviews on this site. He was running late for our initial scheduled time (I had to drive out 1.5 hours to see him), but it seemed like it would be worth it.

When I arrived, super kind, super friendly, again, I almost feel guilty writing all this. We begin the massage, and well, I'm draped, which I wasn't expecting, but thought, no problem. He was fully clothed, so I thought, maybe it's something that we warm up into in the sensual department, given that I'm expecting to pay $400. During the massage, he was usually positioning to be out of reach, but it seemed like it was mixed messages, so wasn't sure where things were going. I'm not a grabber, so I just respected what seemed like the boundaries he was creating.

Before long, he said "well, take the time you need to get dressed". Usually I don't say anything, even if I don't like how something went, but this time I had to, I said, "Oh, is there no happy ending?" I felt stupid saying it and feel dumber writing it. But I wanted to point out the discrepancy somehow. Again, he was so polite, and he said, "Oh, I don't do that anymore, I'm engaged now." So I asked if it would be charging a different rate. He said he'd take $300. To be fair, he looked like he felt bad about it, and said "How would you like your happy ending?”, but obviously I felt awful at that point and politely declined. Now, i doubt he didn't know about his limitations as an engaged person before we started messaging and he gave me the options, but I didn't think about that until after. I just assumed that it's a new thing and sucks to be me. Now, after thinking about it, it seems strange to me that he didn't know that before we agreed on a time. It also makes me feel even worse, that I'm apparently so ugly that even a mechanical HE wasn't worth it.

Once again - I feel badly about saying anything "negative", because sincerely, there are people who come off as douchebags, but nothing about him rubs me that way. I thought he was so kind, and even handled the confrontation so kindly. But $300/90 minutes for what I think most people on here would consider a purely therapeutic session (he occasionally leaned in so that you felt part of his leg or groin but that was it), and with what was communicated by message, this was a major let-down.

Just thought I'd post the experience for you guys on here. Great therapeutic session, though. 🤷‍♂️

You're very diplomatic.  It's good to hear that he's not a jerk, but under the circumstances, I don't think he should be offering a sensual option.  It's awesome that he's engaged and has consequently set stricter boundaries for the type of massages he provides, but given those new boundaries, it's misleading for him to offer anything but therapeutic.  I'm glad you questioned him because it sounds like he would have accepted the full amount otherwise.  That would have been really uncool.  And there's no need for you to put yourself down whatsoever :)

I hate to say this but I don’t think Rene is all that dissimilar to other WeHo-based masseurs. I’ve actually had massage therapists tell me how surprised they were what some guys are willing to pay for just a “sensual” option (light, feathery touches, some teasing, but not even a HE). In markets like LA, Chicago, NY, Miami, etc. it’s not unusual for un-licensed, un-trained “massage therapists” to charge $200 minimum for 60 minutes. To me that’s crazy but men are horny and will pay this to feel the touch of another guy I guess. And as long as they can get away with charging these kind of rates they’ll continue upping and upping their fees. I understand that everyone needs to make a living but there’s also a fine line between charging a fair amount and completely ripping clients off. I would say the best thing to do is find a regular masseur in your area that you trust and that gives a decent massage and stick with them! Forget booking guys on a whim based on a half naked pic they’ve photoshopped just to get you thinking with your small head not your big one….

$400 for a fully clothed sensual massage with no HE is crazy. I’m sorry, my friend, but you were taken to the cleaners. 90 minutes notwithstanding, that’s overpromised and under delivered. I’ve hired masseurs recently who did much more for much less, and I don’t have any illusions as to my ability to set their pulse racing with anything but my money. I won’t even begin to comment on him mentioning his engagement during the massage. He was either dishonest when scheduling or dishonest during the massage and neither behavior should be rewarded.

I truly hope others aren’t supporting this provider at that price. The LA market is expensive enough.

Funny, how he waited until after the massage, to tell you that... Sorry I call complete BS. He was just using a convenient excuse. Good on you for calling him out on the the lack of sensuality and the payment he would have accepted had you not said anything.

Maybe he's engaged, that's great, but he's still advertising sensual massage and still has highly suggestive photos on his profile... My thoughts are his happy endings are YMMV, and his soon to be hubby may or may not be aware of it... I'm leaning towards very aware, and he's cool with it.

Update: Someone from the forums here private messaged me and they messaged him to ask about his rates and follow-up by asking about whether or not he offers MT, MN and HE. The rates he gave were similar ($20 off), so the person forwarded him my post above as a reason for inquiring in so much detail. Rene’s response was that I never asked for sensual and that I was disrespectful. That sucks - gave him benefit of the doubt and actually thought he was kind. I guess I was more played than I thought. :classic_sad:

SUMMARY of all posts organized by AI.

----------------------------

Here’s a summary of the community feedback and experiences shared regarding the masseur Rene (aka MassageByRene), collected from various forum posts spanning several years:

🌟 Overall Impressions

  • Appearance: Rene is consistently described as very attractive, muscular, and photogenic, though some note discrepancies between his photos and real-life appearance, with recent comments suggesting age-shaving and edits on his RentMasseur profile.

  • Personality: Almost everyone agrees he’s sweet, polite, and kind in person and over messaging. Even those disappointed with the massage say he was friendly and respectful throughout.

💆‍♂️ Massage Quality

  • Therapeutic Massage:

    • Generally well-received, with several users saying it was among the best deep tissue massages they’d received.

    • Not formally trained, but has “some basics under his belt.”

    • Effort is appreciated, especially for the therapeutic side.

  • Sensual Massage:

    • Mixed reviews:

      • Early reviews described strong sensual elements, often with implied or explicit “extras”.

      • Recent encounters report a lack of sensuality, even when paying the higher “sensual” rate.

      • One user (whmf) detailed a session where boundaries were unclear, and despite agreeing to a sensual massage, the masseur was clothed and distant. After confronting him, Rene explained that he was engaged and no longer offered those services — but only after the session ended.

💰 Pricing

  • Therapeutic: $200–$300 for 60–90 mins

  • Sensual: $300–$450 for 60–90 mins

  • Rates have steadily increased over the years, and many users consider them very high, especially for unlicensed massage work.

  • There’s a sentiment that his value proposition leans more toward companionship or “escort-like” experiences rather than traditional or even sensual massage.

🔁 Repeat Customers?

  • Some users would repeat, primarily for his looks and vibe.

  • Others won’t repeat, citing:

    • Inconsistent sensual experiences

    • Price too steep for what’s delivered

    • Feeling misled by suggestive advertising vs real-life boundaries

🧾 Ethics & Advertising Concerns

  • A major turning point in the feedback is the issue of misleading sensual services. While Rene still advertises sensual options and highly suggestive photos:

    • Some clients are not getting what was promised, particularly regarding “happy endings.”

    • One reviewer was charged full sensual rate despite no sensual interaction, and only received partial reimbursement after confronting him.

  • Several posters expressed that if Rene no longer offers sensual services, he shouldn’t be marketing them.

💬 Notable Quotes

  • “Sweet guy, massage ok, good sensual elements.”

  • “He’s smoking hot… but the massage was brief.”

  • “You were taken to the cleaners.”

  • “Still a great therapeutic massage. But don’t expect more, even if you’re paying for it.”

  • “He handled the confrontation kindly, but it left a bad taste.”

🧠 Final Takeaway

Rene is charismatic, hot, and gives solid therapeutic massages, but expectations should be clarified upfront, especially regarding the sensual aspect. His high rates are a sore point, especially in light of recent inconsistencies between what’s advertised and what’s delivered.

YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) is very much in play here.
