wsc Posted June 25 Posted June 25 OMG! I had such a crush on this pretty boy! So handsome! I still have his LP with a cover showing just his face and that amazing hair. From what I've read of him in the wake of his passing, he was a genuinely good man and had a good life. I'm glad of that and will always have fond memories of him. Rest in peace, Pretty Boy, and thanks for the memories. samhexum, + sync, Smokey and 4 others 2 2 3
+ Gar1eth Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 I remember that album cover. I always thought he was so cute!! I believe this is the cover you were talking about. I actually read something about him being more popular than Davy Jones. I was surprised. But they were both of them guys that young Gman thought were incredibly cute. RIP to both. thomas, + Pensant, + sync and 2 others 4 1
Ali Gator Posted June 25 Posted June 25 He was one of my first 'crushes' at age 6 or 7 in the early 70s. My older cousin Linda and my older sister were in love with him - bought all the '16' and 'TigerBeat' magazines with him on the cover and pictures inside. (David Cassidy was my other crush) I didn't know until recently (on another Hollywood forum) that Sherman was bisexual, and he and Sal Mineo were apparently lovers for a while. Mineo helped Sherman get his start in Hollywood in the early 60s, pushing him as a 'musical actor'. Their affair was one of the 'worst kept secrets' in Hollywood, though Sherman's agents kept trying to put him out in public with different girls on his arm in the 60s, and eventually arranged a marriage for him in 1971 (though reporters saw right through it) which ended in separation / divorce shortly after. He supposedly left Hollywood when Mineo was killed in early 1976, moving far away from both the gay and celebrity life. He left his 'wife' around the same time (their divorce was finalized in 1979), and became a paramedic in a very private life in LA. thomas and + Pensant 1 1
maninsoma Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) My sister had a lot of his records, bought the teen magazines from which she took out the full paged photos to hang on her bedroom walls. She kissed each one goodnight every night. As a young gay boy, I was into him too but had to pretend to find her whole fascination with him disgusting. The same with Donny Osmond a year or two later. I got busted when I was playing her 45 of Sweet And Innocent when I thought no one else was around but my brother suddenly came into our room. I have all of Bobby's albums on vinyl and cd and still listen to him on occasion. His biggest hits were well produced. Some of his album tracks really crack me up, like Sweet Gingerbread Man. I assume he knew he was never the greatest singer, but he was decent enough for the kind of teen pop he recorded and he certainly had the looks and charisma to make one not care when a bum note or two appeared. + Pensant Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Sherman's first wife was Patti Carnel; the couple had two sons before they divorced.[14] Sherman married Brigitte Poublon on July 18, 2010, in Las Vegas. (From Wikipedia)
+ Gar1eth Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 I had read his bisexuality was only rumored. But who knows? Here are two hunky pictures that show why young Gman was enthralled by him. MikeBiDude and thomas 1 1
