This list omits the most famous birthday on the 24th of May, namely Queen Victoria, the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland but also the first Empress of India. The longest reigning British monarch in history until Queen Elizabeth II. In Canada we still celebrate Victoria Day as a national holiday. And it just happens to be my birthday as well.

Bon anniversaire!

I'm sure I've said this before, when I was in primary school (at least for the first few years) there was a half day holiday on 24 May to mark Empire Day. More importantly, it was cracker night, or bonfire night (except in WA where that was on Guy Fawkes Day, 5 Nov).

Merci!

We always had fireworks on Victoria Day at our cottage as children. My father would set them off and we would do roast marshmallows on a small bonfire.
This weekend the weather was dreadful but I had fireworks set off in my bedroom with my favourite provider. In fact they went off all night long and into the morning. 😈
