First half of the movie is great; 2nd half falls apart; and at 3.5 hrs, it’s far too long in general. Brody is solid but hasn’t he done quite similar roles before (so not exactly trying something new)? Personally not interested in seeing him nude.
I don’t love Timothy Chalamet, but think he was incredible in the Bob Dylan movie and should win the Oscar.

But it’s all so subjective.

Agree entirely. We saw it in a relaxed screening one afternoon. We both enjoyed it but we were of the same opinion.

The first (of two parts in the first half) is tremendous, conveying the chaos and displacement of people after the War, and the second part in the US is engrossing. The second half is rather a mess and I felt the editing could have been better.

He is a front-runner at the Academy Awards, burning past his colleagues on betting charts over his critically acclaimed achievements in The Brutalist.

But unfortunately for Adrien Brody, this is the 2025 Oscars — where controversy seemingly lurks behind every title sequence. And when it comes to The Brutalist, the controversy is a slightly novel one: artificial accents.

As revealed by Red Shark News, director Brady Corbet and editor Dávid Jancsó used artificial intelligence from Ukrainian software company Respeecher to adjust Brody and co-star Felicity Jones's Hungarian lines.

And as the roles the two played as native-speaking, Hungarian immigrants earned them best actor and supporting actress nominations, it raises a question.

An acting award for an AI-aided performance? What gives?

I finally saw this last night. I found the story fascinating and heartbreaking. I enjoyed this more than Oppenheimer. I did not fall asleep on this one. It's the kind of movie that wins Oscars. I thought Adrien Brody's performance was amazing. During the hooker scene, I had wondered a few things. Why were his pants pulled up so tight and so close to his junk? That didn't seem right or believable with a handjob in action. I also wondered if he let the actress pull on his own junk? That would be so "method."

I was surprised the film was not a true story. It sure did feel like one. The fact that it is fiction, the length of the film seems completely indulgent.
