I'm currently fuming, as I gave stupendous advice that wasn't given by anybody else in a current thread, only to see that my message wasn't readable by the OP, because I was blocked.

Was my message blocked and unable to be read by everyone, or just the person who blocked me? I didn't do a thing to warrant this kind of drastic action (and if I did, it sure would be nice from the source what in their opinion I did wrong).

I deleted my advice, as I saw no reason to give it to someone who has no access to it, or is unable to be seen by anyone.

Any posts you make even if it's in a thread started by someone who has blocked you is readable by everyone else.

I honestly don't see the point of blocking someone just ignore them. You could be reading a thread for instance and there could be a back and forth going on which includes someone you blocked and you won't know what the heck is going on then. Or you could make a reply in a thread and think you made a great point and not know if for instance someone you blocked has just said the same exact thing.

First, an issue of terminology. We tend to use block and ignore interchangeably here. Technically we have an Ignore function but there is no capacity to block other members. As a user here, you do not have the capability to block other people from reading your posts, ignoring is a one-way process.

@viewing ownly, as @BuffaloKyle said, if someone has you on ignore, they can't see anything that you post directly but they will see anything you have posted if someone else quotes you. You shouldn't be able to see if someone else is ignoring you, but if you become aware that they are, I wouldn't be too concerned that they hadn't seen your advice. Remember that while you may think of what you say as personal advice to them, it's not just that, you are contributing to a wider conversation and may end up being useful to someone else, few issues are unique to the person who raises them in a thread, and if you have raised an idea that someone else sees merit in, it will be taken up by other posters.

Thank you both for your information. It was an insightful suggestion that hadn't been made by anyone up to that point. I don't feel the need to re-type it in that thread, but if someone down the road has a situation that would render the same advice relevant, I'd possibly chime in with my two cents.

It's always a learning experience on here or any forum. A big lesson learned is to read the initial post of the thread before giving an opinion. What people are typing about many pages later might have nothing at all to do with the subject matter in the beginning!

Here’s a bit more about how the "ignore" feature works in this forum: when someone on your ignore list posts something, you’ll see a notification in the thread indicating that the user xxxxxxx has posted. You’ll also have the option to view that specific post or remove them from your ignore list.
