Ali Gator Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 It's been announced Donna Summer's "Greatest Hits - On The Radio - Vols 1 & 2' has been redone into an 'expanded' edition and will be released in mid-November. However, it seems the only thing similar to the 1979 release is the title and the artwork. The tracks are all the 7" radio edits, and they will not segue into each other like the original so artistically did. The second LP will include most of her radio singles AFTER she left Casablanca at the end of 1979. There will be different releases on both vinyl and CD. For example, there will be your choice of color vinyl in Europe, or the traditional black vinyl (the colored vinyl is purple / pink limited edition and at a hefty price). In the US, there is talk about the double CDs being available in black and gold as a limited edition - as well as the traditional double CD. This is all subject to change. Overall, fans are not happy with this release - no one wants another 'hits' compilation. There's plenty of music 'vaulted' still, and a release of that will be a welcome change. SoCalBaseball 1
samhexum Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I guess even when she's dead she works hard for the money. + jeezopete and SoCalBaseball 2

maninsoma Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) There's little point to this release. I wonder if they are hoping that people will impulse buy this without realizing that it isn't mixed like the original On The Radio. This really is not much different than previous hits compilations that combined her '70s and '80s hits. Edited November 19, 2024 by maninsoma samhexum 1
Ali Gator Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 This compilation lives up to its title - each song included is the 'radio edit' single in her catalog, so these are the edited versions played 'on the radio'. In the past, her GH albums were all different edits (mostly album cuts). Will this make enough of a difference for her fans to buy ? Not to this longtime fan.
Ali Gator Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 On The Radio - Greatest Hits Expanded debuts on three charts in the United Kingdom this frame. The compilation appears in almost the exact same position on all of those rankings, and it’s her biggest hit ever on one of them. Summer debuts her newly re-released singles collection at No. 25 on the Official Albums Sales chart. That position resets her loftiest appearance on the list of the most-purchased titles in the country by a few spaces.
