Pretty week review in the paper yesterday morning

For inspiration, a writer moonlights as an escort in this drama from Mikko Makela.

Probably, there are too many movies on this subject.  At least, too many "Mid" movies.  Of them all, I think I liked Boy Culture, NOT a serious movie, best.  The best feature film on the Subject is probably Tecine's "I Don't Kiss", despite the dumb ending.

There was also a short film, 20 years ago, I can't find now about a hustler at someone's Fire Island house.  When the hustler realizes that the guy isn't going to pay him his paltry fee, like $50, the hustler just breaks down in this kind of pathetic way which I really liked.

Oh, and also in Circuit, I loved when the barely 30 year old escort was told by his client at the San Vicente Inn a hotel I was VERY familiar with by then :-) that he was too old.

Also, despite the claustrophobic beginning, Strapped was excellent.

Still, probably too many movies.  But, I'm sure I'll watch this one.

I read an interview afterwards with the director and star (I just missed seeing the hot star at my screening by a few days)

Their goal was to make a “sex worker positive” movie (free of shame) that shows a young man doing the work bc he wanted to and eventually really embracing it without a lot of tragedy etc. he really ends up making some touching connections by the end. Wish he worked in my city!!

I also saw it today (this afternoon) at the IFC in Manhattan -- were we at the same screening, @cany10011? -- and found the movie remarkably effective. The (many) sex scenes were very sexy and strangely realistic. Same for the mix of clients and the mix of good and bad decisions being made. The main actor is both a real beauty and a very good actor.

I couldn't help but wonder how many of the dozen or so middle aged and older men at my screening were viewing the film from the client POV.
