+ cougar
I will be going to Los Angles for business and will spend two free days there for a short vacation. Since I have never been to LA before, I have a couple of questions to ask. I would like to get a hotel that is not too far from LAX. I don't plan on getting a rental car and I want to stay in a hotel that is walking distance to the beach. I started looking in Manhattan Beach and didn't find anything there close to the beach, same thing for Hermosa Beach. I then started looking at Santa Monica and I think I found a good hotel, so I just might do this, unless someone recommends a better plan. Since this is the end of a longer visit, in which it starts in West Hollywood, I just want to explore a different LA area that is close to LAX for my Wednesday flight. Thank you! + azdr0710
The LAX area is not really a recommended destination for your last couple days. It has a big lineup of hotels along the airport access road area (Century Blvd), but those rooms are usually filled with airline crews, bumped passengers, and early departure types. Though the western reaches of LAX are very near the coast, a beach is definitely not walkable from those hotels, but one can Uber/Lyft to one. Santa Monica is a great beach spot with a nearby popular walkable "downtown". I believe a new subway/train now goes to Santa Monica from points inland, but Angelenos can advise on that. That train goes nowhere near LAX, however. You'll have to get a taxi/shuttle to the airport, but worth it to avoid the LAX area. Local Angelenos can also advise on the El Segundo/Manhattan/Redondo/Hermosa Beach area beachside hotel options you may've missed. It's difficult to address the OP's query without knowing his budget, and why he wants to spend 2 days near LAX. Checking that Shutters out, it looks as though their rooms start at $1000 a night and go up from there, when you add all of their BS "Resort Fees" and other non-optional "fees" and taxes. I'm not poor, but I'd never pay that much for a hotel room. There's also no easy way from there to LAX, so although it's not that far as the crow flies, I'd count on a minimum of 30 minutes to get to LAX once you're in your taxi, Lyft, or Uber, more during busy times. If he just wants a place to crash that's near the beach, Sea View Inn at the Beach in El Segundo is within easy walking distance of both the beach and Manhattan Beach. More upscale than the Sea View Inn, but much more affordable than Shutters is the Belmar, also in the El Segundo/Manhattan Beach area. Rooms start at around $232, including all taxes and fees, up to $271 (including taxes and fees) for a room with a king bed, balcony, and garden view. It's a bit over a mile to the beach, which some would consider walkable (or very cheap Lyft ride). Of course, the area around LAX is far from almost anything of interest in the Los Angeles area, other than the beach.
Chelseaboi
I also recommend the Belamar in Manhattan Beach. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the beach and the restaurants near the pier, but the route takes you through some really lovely neighborhoods. It’s also a very cheap Uber ride to and from LAX + cougar and Just Chuck

+ cougar
Thank you for the information, It looks like I will stay at the Belamar as the location and price is very nice and gives me some wiggle room with cash for a hot local boy to entertain!
