Broadway actor Jeffrey Carlson, who also made history as trans character Zoe on the soap "All My Children," has died. He was 48.

Certainly not the first trans character on TV.  Maybe one can stretch the qualifications to make that true: First regular character on a series who initially presents as the gender conforming to their sex at birth who subsequently transitions.  I'm not even sure if that's true, though.

His character (Zarf, who transitions to Zoe) is the first trans character on daytime television, according to the Los Angeles Times. That nuance was missing from the early reports about his death.
