Sajak stepping down as host of Wheel after next season

“Well, the time has come,” Sajak said in a statement to Bloomberg News on Monday. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all.”

The more that is reported, the more I disbelieve he wanted to step down. I think this was a deal to bring Seacrest in, long in the making and all settled before announcements were made.

First, Ryan Seacrest, announced he was leaving 'Live with Kelly' and had his last show in mid-April. The focus was on Kelly's husband Mark joining the show, so Seacrest kept quiet (as did Sajak and the producers of 'WOF') during May sweeps. No one wanted to distract from the ratings of each show (understood).  Sweeps end, and Sajak announces he's leaving at the end of the 2023-24 season , but within weeks Seacrest is announced as the replacement. Hmmmm. They have a whole year to find a replacement, and go with Seacreast a few weeks after Sajak announces his departure ? 

 

I'm telling you - this was all well-orchestrated behind the scenes, and has been in the planning stages for months.

On a strictly non-escort level, I've gotten drunk with Sajak multiple times and he's funny as hell.

He spends most of his year at his home in Disney's Golden Oak.  The neighborhood has it's own supperclub and I once pulled up a bar stool close to where he was sitting and he struck up a conversation.  Very nice guy.  Wicked sense of humor.
