This may be a stupid question but I've always wondered how escorts handle their money when they travel. Because most of the clients will be paying in cash, I presume that by the time you are ready to go home you will have quite a pocket full of bills. Do you just carry this with you or keep it in the hotel safe until you're ready to go home? When you're ready to go home you will still have a large wadd. I was thinking this could be a problem because of thieft or when you're going through airport security.

As a client I've always wondered about taking cash with me. My bank says that the largest denominations of travelers checks is $100 which can make for quite a sizeable number to carry if I plan to see several escorts while I'm on vacation.

Thanks,

really good question. Spoke to a well known guy from here who was in NYC a few weeks ago for a couple week stay - he was quite busy and on his last day had his entire wad of cash stolen from his hotel room - he's pretty sure it was an inside job - hotel saw what he was doing and waited until last day to get his cash.

I know some guys make daily deposits into their bank account from an ATM

Great strategy! I assume the money was NOT in a safe!

On the LAST day, the guy would have had little time to prove and report the stolen money without any receipts or proof, while departure time was drawing to a close!

Hopefully he had used some money to pay his hotel bills and live on as he collected it, while traveling.

Last nite, I had an interesting discussion with a Manager in a large chain electronics store about the requests for PICTURE ID, when using a credit card on small purchases. When I get asked for an ID by the naive Salesclerk, who reports it is STORE POLICY, I explain, that it is NOT a legal request, and request for the Manager to explain it to him. MOre often then NOT, they already know it, but don't tell the poor and often newer salesclerk.

Well, last nite, I got a very knowledgeable Manager (who got his instore post grad training in NYC) and he agreed with me on every detail. So I hadn't lied one iota to the salesman.

But what was interesting, is HOW sophisticated some of the con artists are in taking stores to the cleaners with their operations and fake cards. So there is NO surprise about RINGS operating within hotels, etc. Even though keeping cash in a hoel room is pure folly!

Under the mattress ...

Hey Ron,

Your bank may carry $100 bills as largest denomination of travelers cheques, however if you go to one of the American Express Travelers Cheques [a href=http://www143.americanexpress.com/tcintl/feefreelocator/request?request_type=SellerLocation&product=T]locations[/a] you'll be able to get $500 bills (the largest denomination used to be $1000 a few years back, but they're now history).

I always deposit the money in the bank the next working day. I rarely use atm's because with my banks since I am out of town takes 3-4 days usually for the money to post and be credited to my account. I rarely carry cash on me and keep it in a secured place if I am unable to get to one of the two banks I use. It amazes me that some people still carry cash on them with the exception of making a payment for a cute guy. If you loose cash your sol but at least with plastic you can report it stolen and with a few minor incidents one is usualy in the clear.

A few options to avoid carrying too much cash with you:

- pay all your expenses in cash

- make a deposit to your bank account

- make a wire transfer

- Fed-ex the cash

- ask Glutes to make an international wire transfer in his name (joke) :+

and make sure the transaction is $10 000 or less

Another option might be pre-paid "credit" cards.

Parents often set them up for college students as a way of controlling allowances/expenses. When the kid runs out of money, the parents add more to the card.

An escort could have an "empty" card and add to it as he travels. The cash would be covered by whatever coverage comes with the card, and still be immediately available if needed.

Has anyone tried something like this? Are these things still even available? I'd imagine the proliferation of "debit" cards diminished the need for them.

Yup pre paid credit cards are still available. I know you can pick one up at Safeway, Vons, Pavillion and Dominicks. The only catch though is there is a service fee. I believe the pre paid Visa's charge a $10usd or so fee for using the card. There are also American Express cards available also and maybe a Master Card too.

American Express offers such a card and it works pretty well. You can go to any bank that offers the service inconjuction with AE Travelers Cheques and add money.

I just checked their website and they actually have several variations on the theme. I couldn't find anything about usage penalties (other than the usual ATM charges), though, and I'd want that clear up front. (Thanks, Greg!)

Seems like a good (protected) way to travel with cash.

Ya they are a good way to travel and keep ones self on a budget but like you said the atm fees can be a kill joy and I'd like to add most car rentals will not allow you to use pre paid credit cards to rent a car. We did have luck with Enterprise in Vegas but I wouldn't bet on them doing this everytime or even still.

Well, we were talking about ways to *accumulate* money, not spend it.

But I hear you about car rentals. They can be freaky in any circumstances. I have a Visa card that I carry ONLY because a car rental agent once refused to take MasterCard. (It wasn't a problem at the next company down the line.)

Wonder why they would refuse this type of payment? After all - money is money so what's their problem.

I know car rentals can be strange. I had one company even refuse to take cash. After a lengthy vacation my plastic was all at the max so I couldn't pay by credit card. This was before debit cards were in wide use. Debit cards to me are the best invention since the flush toilet. I almost never carry money anymore.

I don't know about accepting deposits that way, but it might be worth checking out.

You've been outright lucky with the rental cars. On four trips to SFO in the last year, they accepted a debit card the first 3 trips. The same agency -- EVEN THE SAME CLERK -- outright refused it on the 4th trip. It was ironic, really. I could have used that card to BUY the damn car, but not to rent it. LOL

To my mind, the best way to deal with this is to carry a money belt. The ones that are made of nylon, velcro, plastic that do not set off money detectors. I have never been stripped down, but I have often used a belt when travelling for safety's sake. It is a very explainable way or travelling with large sums of money. Besides which, by law everyone is allowed to carry UP TO 10,000 dollars in cash when travelling from country to country.

Alternately, one can Fed-Ex packages in the mail. A LOT of people would have serious reservations about doing this, but I managed to do it for a few years without ever having anything go missing. By registering one's mail, it is a criminal offence to have it opened. Moreover, the people delivering it are held accountable if anything goes missing, as you have sender address (replete with phone no.) AND a receiver address (and phone number as well).

What about going into a U.S. Post Office and buying postal money orders? They are quite inexpensive. One could then write in ones own name as payee -- this does not have to be done in front of the clerk. One could then keep the receipts and the money orders in separate places. The money orders could then be deposited directly to one bank account(s) upon returning home. The buyers name is not recorded and no identification is required to purchase them. They are sold individually in amounts up to $1,000 (?) and one can buy as many as one wishes. I use this method to send money to an escort with whom I travel and have never had a problem.

I was just about to post about Post Office money orders when another poster beat me to it. There may be slicker ways to do it today, but I knew an escort who would use postal money orders for his accumulated wads of cash. They're guaranteed, very inexpensive, and can be deposited in one's own account back home.

To take this one step further - if the escort had a P.O.Box back home, he could mail the money orders to himself and they would be there for him on his return. I say PO Box as they might be a safer bet than having the mailman stick them through you mail slot at home.

back in the "old gaiety days" long, long ago i knew one escort that lost his entire weeks earnings (over $10,000) to an inside hotel thieft at the milford plaza. i was on a sunday and he was packing; during the week he had kept his cash in the hotel's safety deposit box. he closed out the box and went upstairs. about a half hour later he got a call from "the desk" that they had an envelope delivered for him and could he come down and get it. without thinking, he went down to the desk, passing the maids and their cart in the hall. when he got to the desk, they said there was no envelope for him and they did not call his room or know what he was talking about. the light went off in his mind and he raced back upstairs and in the 5 minutes he was gone, he had been relieved of his money. he called the manager and said he had been robbed and they checked out the maids and the cart and found nothing. he assumes they hid the money in one of the rooms on the floor and could get it later. clearly the staff there knew about the gaiety and any young man who was in and out all day and who visited the safety deposit box was a target.

another gaiety story that fits in this thread is about a canadian dancer who i got to know well. he trusted me and as he did not want to cross customs with more than $10,000 in cash, had me send him half the cash in two separate fed ex packages the following week when he was home.

Similar to a money belt, some places sell a zippered nylon envelope with a belt loop that slips down into your pants. You can easily pull it up if you need it, and slip it back. Totally secure unless you lose your pants. Loop it on the side of the belt with the buckle. When traveling, I carry everything there which I dont actually need during the flight. And when I get through showing the drivers license, it goes into the envelope as well. As a client, I also carry cash, and prefer this method.

Damned those ATM's

I normally carry very little cash on me and use ATMs when needed. I can just imagine the wad of bills an escort leaves has to pack/hide. The norm seems to be twenty dollar bills from ATMs. I know I have given a stack before that would make money belts or hidden envelopes impossible. I can just imagine what the wad of cash would look like if other clients were doing the same.

I once had an ATM dole out all ten dollar bills. I was almost too embarrassed to go through with the meeting.....but I got over it! :+

If during the daytime, I found I can go in many banks and use my ATM card at the counter and get larger bills and often with no ATM fee too.

How do you go abouts using your ATM card at the counter and avoid the ATM fee? If you use your own banks ATM there shouldn't be a fee, if there is time to look for a new bank.

There are no branches to my bank or ATMs...all online. I get reimbursed from my bank for host bank ATM fees, but still try to avoid the fees if I can. Don't know how or why, just found some banks do not apply a fee when using the ATM/debit card at the counter.
