They have a very high vaccination rate in Malaysia:

True. But Malaysia first encountered CoVid upon the departure in February of last year of thousands of Muslim pilgrims from around the world to a religious festival. They appear to be overly cautious in readmitting foreign travelers. The Strait Times reports that they should be open by January 1 in time for Chinese New Year on February 1st. We’ve been able to reschedule our departure to January 13th. But we have a 19 hour overnight layover at Narita in Japan and Japan is not open.  If the airport lounges aren’t open, we may be sleeping on the floor of Narita airport. Travel is so broadening.

Malaysia opened up to tourists back in April. No vaccinations were required starting last month (August).
