A week ago while the effects of Ike were still unknown there was a mini run on local gas stations. We get a lot of our fuel from the Gulf Coast and there was speculation we might run out. In fact, the price went up by 25 cents that day and currently is about 40 cents higher than before Ike.

It is pretty easy to understand the mechanics of how this can happen. I will leave the mindset to your discretion.

If there are something over 200,000 vehicles in town and they all average say 12 gallons in their respective tanks; if they collectively decide to fill up they will suck 1,000,000 or so gallons from the station reserves. It doesn't take much of that to empty a few station tanks around town.

With 100 dollar oil we should have 3.00 car gas. Currently it is about 3.80.

Best regards,

KMEM
