This is known as "Ignoring" a member, and yes it's possible.  Hover over their username, and click the button on Ignore User.  Once you click on it, you need to choose what you want to ignore from the user.

Thanks.  I asked because it looks like all my previous "ignores" didn't come though with the new organization.
