>How did you score those locations? I've tried several times, several dates and the locations have been lousy -- extreme sides, "the edges."

Lankypeters,

Here's the website I used:

http://www.telecharge.com/search.aspx?selectType=City&selectValue=82

I used the option "Best Available Seats" and, you're right, all I got was the orchestra on the right or left. I then selected "Premium Seats" and got much better choices.

I also went to the web site at different times during the day. I got different choices each time I tried.

I'm paying a pretty price for premium seating. But, I don't go to NYC that often and I'm willing to pay the price for shows that I really want to see.

I've also had good luck getting good seats if I plan my trip several months in advance. On my last trip I was there 5 days and saw 7 plays. But, I also got tickets about 9 months in advance using the "Best Available Seats". I also mixed up the dates on the plays and "assumed" I'd get better seats at popular plays on a Tues, Wed, or Thur. Also tried the afternoon show for better seats.

I bought my ticket for Equus about 1 week ago and found that the afternoon show on Saturday had much better seats than the evening show.

It just takes a little detective work to find what you want. I've also had good luck (10 years ago) with buying "extra" tickets from patrons on the street. Actually scored a seat for Phantom on Row C dead center.

For Les Mes a family had a spare ticket that they sold me. I looked at it before paying them and it was orchestra center. But, when I showed up at the seat, the blood drained from their faces when they realized they had sold me the wrong seat. They actually meant to sell me a seat in the mezzanine.

They offered to give me all of my money back (less $20) if I'd switch to the mezzanine seat. So, I saw Les Mes for $20.

RE: Radcliffe naked on a horse.

>"Equus" is a strong, provocative play and I'm sure Radcliffe will acquit himself admirably in the play.

I just finished reading the play and I can hardly wait to see the production.

For me, it's going to be pure pleasure to see Daniel Radcliffe in the buff (now that he's of legal age). But, I'd probably see the play even if there was no nudity.

I think Radcliffe is making a very strategic career move in doing this play. He's totally breaking from the Harry Potter role that has defined him. I seriously doubt he'd have much of a future if he didn't do something like this and show that he can handle various roles.

Only wish I could have been lucky enough to score a seat in the stage audience. }(

>Based on what you've said about preferences, you might also Ralphie at MaximumEscorts... And definitely consider Andy Lopez, if he's in town.

Ralphie and Andy were both on my list of potentials. With Ralphie I was a little hesitant because I've never used MaximumEscorts and didn't know if they were reliable.

I'm assuming that Andy is independent and not working through an agency. Like I mentioned on MER, I've very concerned about having a "no show" which is why I considering going with an agency.

So many choices I'm beginning to think I need to extend my time there. }(

My experience and, I think, others' is that Maximum is extremely reliable.

Only saw Andy once, but he struck me as mature, responsible, reliable. Others seem to report similarly professional behavior.

Right - what's the rush? We only regret our omissions, not our commissions.

I often check in on the Telecharge site within 24 hours of curtain time. Often house seats are released then. The locations are excellent -- they're often unsold premium locations sold at the regular price of an orchestra seat. I see just about everything from tenth row center or thereabouts. Of course, since in live in New York, I can do that. If I don't get a seat one day, I try again at another time. Visitors here for just a few days risk not seeing what they want if they rely on that approach.

Interesting article on "Billy Elliot" in Variety. The production turns out to be extremely expensive and complicated. They had to dig a hole under the stage to accommodate a hydraulic lift for the stage floor, this for the miners to descend into the mines.

And they must rehearse three Billys who have different strengths as dancers and sing in different keys. The actors who appear every night, such as Billy's dancer teacher, have to adapt to the different keys and dancing strengths -- the routines have been keyed to the strengths of the kid playing Billy. And because the actors are on the cusp of adolescence, the production has to staff and train about 10 younger, up and coming Billys.

Add to that the hesitation to bring a story about industrial Northern England to Manhattan and you make a major risk in producing this one.

Three friends who saw the London production says it's the best show they've ever seen.

I can't wait to see it. But from tenth row center!

ONE FINGER:

Oh my God! Didn't you know that on the afternoon show, because of so many kids in the audience, that Radcliffe will be wearing a thong???

He's only nude at the nightime performances.

I am in row E for my performance, but a few seats over on the side. No premium price though.

BTW, I was just kidding about the thong.

BEFORE the BROADWAY run was over LEONARD NIMOY (YES Mr. Spock) took over the part of DYSART. I am NOT CERTAIN but it was in EITHER the NYC or LONDON production that RICHARD BURTON made a "SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT" and that is HOW he got the MOVIE> FIRTH was the ORIGINAL LONDON, BROADWAY and MOVIE ALAN STRANG.

WARNING>>> SEVERAL upcoming productions have been CANCELLED due to LACK OF INVESTMENT...AMONGST THEM are GODSPELL and FOR COLORED GIRLS

LOL- I hope that you are all right. I hear that you have to bring binoculars to the show, but that could just be some bitchy queens. I wondered why naked Harry Potter penis pix haven't shown up, so I googled it. This is what I found, if it's real (and doesn't become a little red box:

I have a few pix of him nude and everyone assures me they are fake. But, they are damn good ones. If you Google "daniel radcliffe nude" you'll find most of the links using the images tab.

They were posted here before (about 18 months ago) but were taken down because he was still underage at the time.

I'm slowly recovering from my heart sinking to my knees due to your joke. Should be well enough by next week to go shopping for some discrete (but powerful) binoculars. :*

RE: Tour of Spring Awakening

The Spring Awakening tour had its beginning in San Diego, at the old Balboa Theater with Kyle Riabko playing Melchior and Blake Bashoff playing Moritz. Both stars had also followed the opening leads in the Broadway production. I saw it Friday night and was amazed at how good the production is. Riabko moves with such grace, and his voice is truly angelic.

I had first seen the show off-Broadway at the small Atlantic Theater, where it knocked me over with its powerful story, amazing choreography, spectacular lighting, and sexy cast. I had great hopes for Broadway, but that venue featured such tight seats that it was a chore to sit through it. The cast seemed to step up the pacing as well, perhaps trying to get us out of those seats earlier, so the show lost a little from the Atlantic.

But not so at the Balboa, where the seats were okay and you actually had a place to put your feet. The place seemed meant for this show, and they did the lighting and set decoration to the tee. This production has heart, so catch it if you can.

The musical will later play in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Tempe, Houston, Tampa, Cleveland, Columbus, Des Moines, East Lansing, St. Louis, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C, Toronto, Boston, and Chicago.

An early report is in on Radcliffe and his magic:

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/arts/2008/09/05/2008-09-05_daniel_radcliffe_joins_broadways_barest.html

The author refers to other male nude scenes, but leaves out Jude Law's long, lingering expose in The Sisters Rosenweig, where he gets out of a tub and proceeds to take a very long time to dry off. Bu then, he wasn't so famous at the time.

Broadway In The Fall

The cast of "Hair" strips down for the first act finale every night at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park! With luck, the show will transition to Broadway early next year. It has a marvelous cast and this production is worthy of Broadway.

"Fela" opened off-broadway last night and there's been quite a bit of positive buzz about this Bill T. Jones directed musical. I think it, too, will transition to a larger theater.

"Equus" begins previews tonight, so I expect mobs of Harry Potter fans surrounding the stage door every night.

It was fun watching the crowd outside the stage door of the Balboa Theater in San Diego. They wanted the two leads, and no one else. The poor guy who played the gay character kept walking around, up and down, but nobody asked him for an autograph or a quarter...and he had done a good job.

Somewhere in the above thread someone encouraged me to consider Shrek, which is previewing in Seattle and opens there next week. Not a good sign, though, that a new choreographer, Rob Ashford, has been brought in for last minute assistance. It is supposed to open in New York in November.

Norbert Lee Butz Returns

Norbert Lee, who was so funny in his last Tony-winning role on Broadway in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and not so funny, imho, in Is He Dead? opens off-Broadway this fall in Fifty Words, with previews starting next week at the Lucille Lortel Theater. The b/f will insist on this one as he is a big fan of Norbert's- (so there goes Shrek from my list!)

It's "a comic look at modern marriage." So why isn't it about a gay marriage?
