I was traveling to South America this month and I was pleasantly surprised with Punta del Este. I've been to many beautiful places around the globe, but Punta is getting close to Paradise on Earth. If you find yourself in that area - it's definitely worth visiting, or even better bring someone special (e.g. your bf or your wife) for a week of R&R. :-)

I was there for a few days in February, and I agree that the peninsula called Punta del Este is very beautiful.

That said, the urban area at the tip of the peninsula (also called Punta del Este) is unappealing to me; it's very built-up, like a mini-Miami

I stayed 40kms from there in the village of Jose Ignacio. It has long beaches of fine sand and few people. It also has an excellent restaurant, La Huella. That area reminded me of the best of the Hamptons and is perhaps what Ibiza and other Mediterranean islands must have been like before they became over-developed.

Hey CT Dick,

Enjoy Punta del Este next week (I wish I was there again). A personal suggestion: don't miss the Ralli Museum http://rallimuseums.org

A must see! I loved the Dali's and the sculpture gardens ...

RALLI MUSEUM

"Harry Recanatti, an international collectionist with a passion for art, established in Punta del Este a Spanish-style museum. The museum occupies 3.000 square meters and it is located in the fashionable neighborhood Beverly Hills. It features a display of international and Uruguayan art including the most important collection of figurative Latin-American art and contemporary art. Its halls are dedicated to European artists such as Miro, Chagall and Dali and to local artists."
