Will be in Key West for 2 days next month. Never been there before and would appreciate any suggestions on what to see and do.

Also noticed that their Gay Spring Break goes from March thru April. Anyone know how crowded it will be during this time?

Appreciate any suggestions on places to go and people to see. }(

Finger... Key West during "Breaks" is extremely Crowded and extremely Straight, especially during Weekends, or when certain Cruise Ships are in Town.

The "Old Gay Days" are gone to a great extent. There are a few Bars left on Duval Street. Bourbon St will probably have the "Youngest" of Crowd's or The "Oldest" of Drag Queen's in the U.S., Depends on when you hit it. Many good Restaurant's are On and Off Duval St.

But Rent a Scooter $35 a day... and Explore, it is a very Beautiful Town, which I called home for a few Year's in its Hey day! The Beach near the Airport is the Best, If your going for the Sun.

I was down there for FantasyFest 07 Great Time with Old Friends...

IF your going as a "Tourista"..Bring $$$$$

My partner and some of his friends will be there this Wednesday thru next Tuesday. I'm sure they will have a full report when they return and I'll be glad to share it with you next week.

I get to play bachelor for a week. Woo hoo!

Hey onefinger,

Where are you staying? The gay guesthouses there can be very nice. I've stayed at the Island House and loved it.

One suggestion: blue Q. Here's the link:

If you have time, the day trip to the Dry Tortugas is worthwhile. Tends to be full of hetero tourists, but it's worth seeing.

And, if you haven't gone swimming with dolphins, there are places in the keys to that too. Great fun!

And then of course there are those reefs and scuba--if that's your thing.

Enjoy!

Tom,

Should probably have said that I'm coming in with the Atlantis all-gay cruise. So, I'm bringing my own hotel with me. ;-)

The blue q suggestion is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to find. Great suggestion - actually found a couple of straight sunset cruises but would prefer to use family businesses.

Since we're there two days, I was thinking of spending the first day doing tourist stuff on the trolley cruise. But, the other suggestion on renting a scooter the second day is also an excellent idea. Do they come in double-wide for my big butt? :+

Really appreciate the info.

I recommend the Moped Hospital for scooter rentals. They seem to be business like, friendly, have good or maybe the best prices. They do want to see a DL and see you ride around their tarmac at least once without falling off. :-)

Key West is still an interesting place to visit regardless of changes over the years. All you need is a good attitude and cash (or plastic).

Have fun.

Best regards,

KMEM

Finger..Check Out "Fast Buck Freddie's" on Duval. IF your into T-Shirts there are some real Awesome Nicely designed ones.. mixed in with the usual fare along Duval.

The "Old Cemetary" also is Fascinating to visit. It was used in a James Bond Movie Many year's ago. Hemingway House a bit of a ripoff for $12 though.

Enjoy your visit. I try to make it downn every couple of year's.;-)

Thanks to all for the great info and suggestions. Really looking forward to seeing Key West.

I did get an interesting e-mail yesterday about the cruise. Just 3 weeks before we leave they've changed the itinerary!! Originally, it was supposed to be an Eastern Caribbean cruise (Ft Lauderdale, Key West, Grand Turk & Caicos, Samana, and Labadee).

Docking permits were denied in Labadee. (I personally wonder if it was because we're a gay cruise.)

We now doing a Western Caribbean cruise (Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Belieze). Sounds like we're going to hit all the tourist traps. x(

But, since I've never been to these ports, I'll reserve judgment. Any suggestions on what to see in there areas?

Have visited Key West twice in last two years. Really enjoyed trolley tour since you can get off and visit places like Truman Summer White House and Hemmingway House and then re-board at your leisure. Also really enjoyed cruise to coral reef and eating at Michaels(dinner) and Fogartys(lunch) Walking up and down Duval very interesting for variety of stores you can see. Some are good and some are a rip-off. Don't miss Mallory Square espcecially in evening.

Hope you enjoy. :-) :-) :-)

The Old Truman House is Gorgeous as it should be.

The Neighborhood it is in is also Gorgeous! As are some of the Guys who Trim the Palm Tree's! ;-)

Unfortunately a couple of "Chain Drugstore's" have taken over what was Terrific Architecture!

There's a sign on one of the Cemetary Fence's. "Tourist's Please take a Chicken on your way Out of Town!..IF your there long enuff.. you will know what it means around 5 a.m. LOL
