Some of the guys in the erotic section look promising, but I am told to avoid CL. That it is mostly flakes and meth heads. So I thought I'd ask the experts. Anybody have a good experience with CL LA?

I would say proceed with caution.

I had a few of encounters in the erotic section of craigslists. Luckily, it's been very good AND cheap. I follow these rules: I don't meet them at my place; I don't do endless emails; I get the number right away and give them a call; and before entering his place, I have to have a good look of his face and body. If it's the same as the pictures sent, then I go in. If not, I leave. I inform them in advance that these are my rules. If they object or are hesitant, I don't even proceed.

It's sounds like a lot of work, but I also follow the same rules when I hire through rentboy or the massage sites.

I am always careful and trust my instinctwhenever I hire.

I have better luck with the erotic services section than the casual encounters section. All my casual encounters were either providing fake pictures, providing a face picture and a body pictures separately. If I ask for a face AND body picture, they said they don't have one or get defensive right away. And pictures that are 10 years old. There were a lot of about face at their door on my end. x(

I agree its allot of work. when I advertised massage on the cl i would post a link too my web site so they could read the f &q section and the services section. then if they wanted an appointment they could call me. i learned real fast on the cl you dont take blocked calls or emails.. most no shows came from that type of contact. or they would email one question at a time.

While you mention it, why no emails? Personally, I need to find a little chemistry first. Just the way I'm treated in an email tells me a lot about whether I want to continue or not. I'm sure there are reasons I'm ignorant of. I figure most guys going shopping on the erotic section of CL are looking for instant gratification after a long day and a few cocktails. I'm looking for more of an affordable regular I guess. I am just wary of guys that don't even know how to treat you properly in a intitial correspondence. They are most likely the rip offs or tweakers I'm trying to avoid.

So really, no recommendations??

reason i tend to not like emails. is i offer my massage services from my home. allot of guys will use email as an attempt to avoid giving me their phone number. if a persons uncomfortable with me having their number i tend to feel equally uncomfortable having them in my home.. the normal excuse i get is I'm married i cant give you my number. my response is so are 80 % of my clients and i have their number or no service.. years ago when i first started out i took any client that called or emailed.. in my experience the ones that turned out to be trouble were those that i let come without a number on record.. I have a few friends on the police force over the last few years that advice to avoid those clients. and if you are a client going to the house of a provider get their number and address leave a copy of it laying out in open view in your home until you return.. if something happens and you dont come back lol thats a place for the people to start with the search

can't comment on CL LA, but can comment on my own CL experiences...

I only twice posted myself...looking for a very simple, friendly meet...and after many back-and-forth emails as a sort of screening process, I ended up meeting with a few guys who were entirely smart and good dudes....no problems...some were not in the shape I'd like, but it wasn't a dangerous mood to me.....

have also responded to others' ads...some posts say "no endless emails" or similar, but I'm extremely cautious and don't mind endless emails....good way to feel out the situation and see what the attitude is...

follow the rules a poster posted above....it's possible a freak could find out about you and f*** up your life, but that's the risk we take...you get what you pay for, usually.....

I presume CL LA is very busy with postings....proceed carefully, follow your gut instincts, be safe.....as suggested, leave that note at home telling where you went...meet at a public place first if you'd like, though many will respond that that's too much trouble....

do things like *67 before you call somebody (block your number), use an anonymous email address, meet at a hotel??, etc....if somebody wants to find out about you, it's not that difficult with the net....so proceed cautiously if you're at all concerned about privacy

My Craigs List experiences have been entirely negative mostly because I have yet to receive a single response from any of the people who have ads up there to any of my e-mails. Either these guys are very busy or they are not serious.

Better to stick to reputable agencies and reputable escorts who advertise in other places.

I've hired dozens of guys off CL-LA, several of whom have become regular things. Many have come to my place and I've never had a problem more severe than one or two guys who were unenthusiastic, trying to do the least possible for the money (but I've actually had more of those off of far fewer hires on Rentboy).

But I've had many more stellar experiences. It's the only place I know of you might be able to find a non-pro guy just looking to make ends meet, and sometimes who enjoys it as much as you do.

I think it's mostly about expectations and who you're looking to hire. If you're the kind of person who only hires well-reviewed escorts, CL's *not* the place for you. Decide: are you willing pay more for less hassle and don't mind making appointments in advance? Then stick to here and MER. *If* instead you're the kind of guy who'd have hired from Numbers or Santa Monica Blvd in the good old days and you have some patience CL's perfect.

And by patience I don't mean you can't get instant gratification. I'd say CL's better for that then most other avenues. But you do have to be a little more active and be willing to wait for the right guy. IF you hire the trash who puts up a new post every 5 minutes 24/7 with an obviously old picture and barely coherent replies then you'll get the same as if you had such low standards hiring on SMB.

Many times I've found somebody compelling in erotic services, but the best success I usually have is posting an ad in m4m (as opposed to erotic svcs) spelling out generally what I'm looking for and mentioning that I'm generous (usually in the post's title).

You will get idiotic replies, people who didn't read or comprehend a word of your post, timewasters trying to get you to spend hours emailing back and forth (low-intensity cybersex I'd describe it as) or trying to collect pictures--so don't be offended if somebody is a bit 'short' with you.

But in LA at least, it's my experience that if you stick to it you'll usually also find somebody that fits your desires and is a bargain to boot.

if you do a good job as a provider and offer what you promise you can do very well. I have pulled in over 800.00 in one week with just cl listings.. doing massage

Good advice there JamesK, I too am a SoCal resident and use Craigslist much as recommended above. Patience is key, but often worth it. By all means make sure the "big head" is in control of the process.

I still occasionally see a young man I met over 4 years ago on Craigslist - great young college student with a regular job - just supplements his income via low-key escorting.

Craigslist reminds me in some minor offbeat ways of the old AOL instant message & "gay chatroom" days (prior to sites like this and escort websites *everywhere* on the web) where you just might run into a hot, nice, young guy who is not a regular escort, really enjoys what he's doing, and tends to be "fresher" than the same old escort you hired the week before. :)

Craigslist ads like this seem like an invitation for entrapment:

http://lansing.craigslist.org/ers/567900643.html

I would never give out my personal e-mail address, real name, home address, cell phone or house number to anyone on craigslist, regardless if they insist on no block/pvt calls. When I call someone from CL I like to be in control.

The CL post I listed sounds like the poster wants you to say I'll pay X-amount of dollars if you perform X-amount of sex acts. This sounds like law enforcement to me.

I use to always post on CL m4m "genrus professional looking for skinny white twinks with recent face pics of yourself" and people in their 50's would still reply or peole would reply and the first sentence would be "I'm not a twink BUT..."

Well if youre not a twink wtf are you emailing me?

CL is mostly a waste of time but I have met a few gems over the years.
