Now I am not so sure.

I am a long time reader and occasional poster (by the way, let me apologize in advance--just about to loose my job for the 2nd time in 18 months and when I am jobless, I tend to post more-- unfortunately without the "wherewithal (ie money)to hire. I hope my posts don't become annoying).

Even though I have been around the Forum for a long time--I didn't realize that you could edit your posts for a brief period once they were posted until 2 to 3 months ago. Has this always been an option even back in the Hooboy days--one that I never noticed? I would have never known about the editing capability now if that nutcase, forgive me, mildly disturbed guy from Florida, hadn't tried becoming an escort and then decided to have a public conversation with several of his alternate identities.

My current question about the Forum is

Under the Travelling guys section, Expat has posted a heads up that Thomas Olivier and Marco are coming in February. I know that I have seen the posting for several days. But now the posting has a date from today January 25th while his "Bump" to his own posting is dated Jauary 24th. There is also a reply to him also dated January 24th. How can you have a "Bump" and a reply before the original posting posted?

If it is due to editing--I didn't think editing was allowed once someone had responded to the post.

Thanking anyone for the explanation in advance.

Gman

PS I just read the other day that Deej wasn't a moderator anymore. I didn't know that--you could have knocked me over with a feather. How long ago did that happen--and was it "public" knowledge?

First, sorry to hear that you will be losing your job. That sucks...and not the good kind of suck.

Second, yes the edit function has been around since the HooBooy days. As I recall, HooBoy disabled it on occasion because certain people abused it. As far as, I know you can edit the post at any point during that limited time frame regardless of whether or not some one has responded to it.

Concerning your question regarding EXPAT's travel post, I'm sure that the changes were most likely performed by a site administrator. As the post originally had several postings to it, one of them derogatory in nature, which has long been frowned upon in the Travel section. So perhaps the date changed when the offending posts were removed. Just a guess on my part. I have often thought that no one should be able to post responses to a Travel listing except the original poster that way potential derogatory comments can be avoided. Also, the endless bumping can also be annoying. IMHO.

JT and Scorpio--thanks for the good wishes. Also thanks for the possible explanation about the date discrepancy. It seems to me that over the last few years-- more people seem to feel the need to send in comments about the travel postings. I don't really remember that happening say 5 years ago--in fact I thought back then only travel dates were accepted in that section. Maybe it should go back to that--and before anyone says anything I admit that I have probably made a few remarks to Travel Postings in regard to certain escorts. I think they were all positive comments--in that section anyway--but I will try to refrain from doing so in the future and maybe others will take the hint.

>Now I am not so sure.

We're running a new version so none of us is all that sure any more. ;-)

Sorry to hear about the job! May your unemployment be short-lived!

It has always been an option. I just don't remember when Daddy enabled it. This capability has been abused on many boards so we had it turned off for the longest time. But it has been enabled for a couple of years now.

You can tell when a post has been edited (by the OP or by an admin or moderator) because it will say so (and by who) in red just under the subject of the post. I'll edit this after I post it so you'll see what I mean.

>If it is due to editing--I didn't think editing was allowed

>once someone had responded to the post.

Responses have nothing to do with it. Self-editing is time-controlled. It's intended as a way for someone who realizes they may have gone too far to "take it back" (or to fix a typo after posting). If it's ever abused, it will go away.

>"public" knowledge?

Yes, it was public knowledge. About 3+ years ago I got fed up with the constant bitchy emails, the constant DEMANDS that we do things a different way, the COMPLETE ENTITLEMENT some people felt to control how this site works. Every moderator the board has ever had had taken time off -- a break away from the madness for a few weeks or a few months. Except me. It was my turn.

But it's worse than that. I'm an Admin now. :o

Just as I was coming back, we lost Hooboy and Daddy needed someone tech-savvy enough to keep the place running if something happened to him. I made the mistake of calling him about something *else* that day. }(

RE: So I Always Thought I knew

Yeah it really is that bad some days.

Just a few days ago a member logged in for the first time in six months for the express purpose of lovingly crafting an alert telling us we're all assholes, he's glad to no longer be a member (the irony of actually BEING a member to be able to send an alert was lost on him), and wishing we'd all rot in hell.

I kid you not. If anything I've softened his sentiments. And it was over not taking an action we actually did take.

There's a lot more of that than you might think.

The 25% bonus would be nice if the salary wasn't $0.00. But the party at the Playboy Mansion was dull too! }(

I don't think I ever really noticed the yellow icon next to the name, and if I did, I had no idea what it signified. I also didn't know Deej was an administrator--I guess that makes him the "fair-haired boy" if anything happens to Daddy--not that I am ill-wishing Daddy or anything.

If you want to drive yourself nuts, look for the other two.

(This should send Lucky into seizures.)

I prefer to think of it as "turkey left holding the bag".
