Does anyone remember the hookup phone lines? I had been on gay.com, a4a, manhunt etc for years already when one of my luddite gay friends introduced me to the hookup by phone system around 2005. I do remember Megamates. Their billboards were in every gay ghetto in the country. They had a sibling site called Megaphone that cut out the profile and voice mail. You would record a greeting describing yourself and then send "live" messages to other guys who were online. You could also talk directly with a guy. Can't tell you how many guys I met off that thing.

I remember back when there were plenty of gay papers and rags where there were ads. I tried a couple of times where nothing happened. Then one night I got lucky. Didn't know anything about this guy but for a few months he called me a couple of times a week and it was HOT AF! Back during the AIDS pandemic is was a safe way of getting off.
