Covent Garden closedown

The Royal Opera House Covent Garden is now closed until further notice. A pity but I suppose inevitable. So much for my mid year trip booked some time ago. However there are people in these troubled times with more problems than me.

A close friend of mine who lives across the road from the opera house told me today that the gov't has said there will be a lockdown, but they still haven't announced details.

The Royal Opera House website is clear and unambiguous. Closed to the public all performances cancelled until further notice.

My friend was referring to a lockdown for residents.

I envy your friend. I couldn’t imagine a more convenient spot in London (the world?) to live.

Oh, no - living there would be a nightmare; 9 months of the year packed with tourists till all hours; very little green space, tourist restaurants... further afield (e.g., by the British Museum) or if of infinite wealth (Mayfair) would be better locations....

When he moved to Broad Court 50 years ago, it really was an ideal spot in London, and I often used to stay with him when I visited. Now it is as @keefer describes it.

I stand corrected on living at that location. I received another email from the Royal Opera House this morning advising that all performances will be cancelled and public access to the building prohibited until 19 April and the situation will then be reassessed.
