I was thinking the same thing. I’m just finishing a book about the war and it’s always so startling to read how young so many of the soldiers and sailors were! Amazing what guys right out of high school did under awful circumstances.

When I think of all the wars in which our young men have fought, I remember one of the saddest and most poignant places I've ever visited - Arlington National Cemetary. With its row upon row of tombstones, this place was once described as "looking as if Cadmus had reversed his legend and sown living men to come up dragons' teeth." Then I wipe my eyes and curse the waste.

It’s going on in Ukraine right now. On Twitter, you see gruesome videos of drones dropping grenades on Russian mobiks hiding in makeshift holes like rabbits outside Bakmukh and the joyful tweets are appalling. Of course, the Russians shouldn’t be there in the first choice. Still.
