Eating Christmas dinner with my sister's inlaws tonight and tried to swallow a piece of turkey that was a bit too large. I swallowed and swallowed again only to realize it would not go down. Then I couldn't breath. I panicked gasping for breath and went to the other room with everyone staring at me. My brother in law came up behind me and performed the Heimlich(sp?) maneuver and out it popped. Still catching my breath I found it hard to tell him to stop and he just kept going and going squeezing the breath out of me saying later he wanted to be sure he got it. For those of you that may care I am alive and well and will be around to haunt you a bit longer. But I certainly do not want to go through that experience again.

I'm glad everything turned out all right, Skrubber. It was lucky that you had someone there to help you.

I'm such a big baby, I would have been in tears after that.

...Hoover

I have choked on some turkeys. It was much more fun than you describe.

lucky, but not necessary:

"The Heimlich maneuver can be performed on oneself using several different methods. One method is to place the thumb side of the fist below the rib cage and above the navel, grasp the fist with the other hand, and press the fist into the abdomen with an upward thrusting motion, repeating this motion until the object is expelled. Another method is to lean over a table edge, chair, or railing and press the upper abdomen against the edge with a quick thrust, repeating this motion until the object is expelled."

... andJG can do the heimlich on me anytime he wants

I think more of us would miss you, Skrubber, than want to admit it. So glad you're still with us.

And I still get a giggle out of the thought of your rescuer going overboard and becoming a threat. It is like something out of a Ben Stiller movie. LOL
