Here's hoping that a side benefit of the new austerity will be a bit more restraint on these xmas excesses.

glutes, I think over-decorating your house for Christmas is a "dad thing". I spent Thanksgiving at my nephew's and the day after, he and his 3 young kids started to empty the basement of all the holiday decorations. "Dad" took charge telling the kids what went where, straighten this cord, put Santa and the reindeers over there, I need the ladder, etc. There was a lot of excitement and everyone helped out. Around his block other dads were doing the same thing with their kids. I guess these Kodak moments are something only dads can appreciate.
