I mean a good rule of thumb when reaching out to a total stranger for something like this is to use a google voice number or something. You'd be surprised how much someone could find out about you from just a reverse lookup of your phone number.

I use an app called TextFree to communicate.

It provides an anonymous number that’s not directed towards your identity.

 

Someone suggested it on another thread a while ago, and I feel more secure now.
