Travelers -- avoiding New York?

This is a shout-out to the traveling escorts... you seem to be giving NYC a miss just now. Those of us who like to try out travelers (or repeat with our favorites) are going through a drought. Is it the high hotel rates? Or not enough guys willing to book with a traveler? Some promising travelers have posted on the travelers forum and then backed out of NYC trips, to our chagrin.

 

I've been told by one traveler that it is a real difficult financial speculation to pay an escorting visit to NYC without a lot of advance bookings, and even then sometimes the traveler who thinks he's got lots of advance bookings arrives to find lots of cancellations and no-shows. So I can understand if somebody gets burned like that and is stuck without enough work to cover their expenses, much less turn a little profit (after all, escorting is a business, right?), and would avoid NYC in future. And the hotel scene here is very expensive if you want to stay at a fancy modern hotel in midtown. But there are lots of smaller, perfectly respectable places outside of midtown that are reasonably proximate to public transit (which I'm told is pretty important for a visiting escort who plans to entertain in his hotel room, since many of us in this city basically stick to the subways and buses), and I hope some more hot travelers will take the plunge...

I think that just the cost of a hotel can be a turn off for some. Speaking for myself I'd love to come out to NY and work but to break even I'd have to hope for a few multi hour appts and that would barely cover the hotel or I'd have to see multiple clients in a day. And that is something that I just don't do even though I know I am more then able to. The occupancy rate for hotels in NY have been just about full for a while now and since the hotels know they can fill them they continue to raise the price and people continue to pay the prices. Hmmm kind of sounds like a similar topic So I think that until the hotels lower the prices there may be fewer traveling guys out to NY. But on the other hand winter is nipping at our heals and from what I've seen on the news winter is not that enjoyable (plane delays, bitter cold etc...) so some of us might decide to go to warmer climates i.e. Florida. And even a lot of the hotels down in Florida are cheaper and just as nice as one might find in NY. Just my half cents worth.

As a tourist, I will definitely say that I visit NYC a lot less than I'd like to because of the ridiculous hotel rates. If there are decent places anywhere in Manhattan below 100th Street for a reasonable price, I certainly don't find them. If I'm going to spend thousands of $$ on a vacation, I'd rather take a luxury cruise. It seems NYC only wants millionaire tourists...

Some friends of mine just returned from 2 weeks in NYC and they seem to have found the solution to the ludicrous hotel prices. They were able (through an agency) to rent a studio apartment, nicely furnished in a brownstone - I think it was around 73 & Broadway, or close to there, for an all inclusive price of $2200.

 

Now if an escort were to rent this, 2 overnights would pay for his overhead and everything else would be profit (after meals etc - and let's face it, many of his meals would probably be paid for by clients who want a dinner companion and a bit of bumydebump).

I typically find that in NYC in particular guys really do wait til the last minute to hire, when i plan a trip to NYC i have no idea whether I will do well or not, sometimes im swamped, other time, NOTHING. I dont know about other escorts but for me I cannot really take that risk at the moment, bc a weekend in NYC can be a costly thing. Although subletting does greatly reduce prices.

Not really - when you compare the number 400 to the population it's almost as if the city is underserviced.

I've spent a lot of my time escorting in New York and I can definitely say the incall factor (usually related to hotels) definitely makes or breaks the trip.

 

Typically, I've stayed with friends and thus can't take incalls. I've worked this out by finding a lower priced hotel that is doable but not unhealthy and using that for incalls as a last result.

 

I would love to see links to these subletting companies or moderately priced hotels. Like Greg said, I don't like to see more than one person per day and nightly hotel rates below $200 are pretty hard to come by.

 

But the other issue is a MAJOR level of cancellations and flakes in the city. Luckily I have a lot of regulars in the city so I won't actually make a trip unless I have enough trustworthy appointments lined that will make it worthwhile for me.

 

Love NYC but it's definitely a difficult city to work in some time. With so many porn stars and guys that are more motivated to make their obscene rent and charge less as a result, traveling escorts can't always make the trip lucrative to visit more regularly.

I planned on making a trip to NY after my upcoming trip to Philadelphia, like I usually like to do...but the cost of hotels was so obscene that it would not be profitable for me to visit (the hotel I usually stay at...not fancy but clean and comfortable, was almost $1k more for the week than usual). I'm just going to wait to find a good deal and visit NY straight from Dallas.

House swapping for escorts

 

Hang on. Has any escort tried this? There are escorts living in Florida, Miami, Chicago and San Francisco (among others). Why not a house-swap with one of the 400 escorts in NYC? Both escorts get to visit and no one pays hotel bills. I can imagine Derek and Rick going to Chicago and Raul going to NYC and they swap keys for the week.

I live in Philly and stayed in hotels in New York frequently, until the last few years when hotel rates went sky high. There are some (certainly not lots) cheaper small, perfectly respectable hotels, but you need to book either months ahead of time or in the off season (January and the weeks before Labor Day and Christmas). Even The Pod, a great cheap hotel on the East Side, is reserved months ahead as is the Incentra (212-206-0007) in the West Village. The reasons escorts are giving here represent the reality of New York much more than the comments of the OP.

But I guess some of the travellers have made it clear about the difficult economics. The suggestion that escorts work swaps to visit each others' cities sounds interesting. That would require a deal of planning, of course....

Philly...Totally Agree! The Traveling Working Guys who have their REGS in NYC are covered for most exspenses and then some. So for them it's worth it. Talvin-Ricky-etc....Some OTHER'S break even IF they are that Lucky sometime's....

 

BUT for other's with the Phenomenal amount of Variety now Available and those looking to be a REG "Client", with their Schedule accommodated whenever THEY GET Horney...Home Based Guy's have the Advantage and Lower Over head! Not to mention Lower Rates alot of the time! LOL ;-)

But a guy who hits town with some regularity and builds a dependable group of local clients who eagerly await his return can work NYC quite nicely, I think. Steven Draker is undoubtedly a master at this. In the old days of his escorting, Devon of San Francisco used to hit NYC with some regularity and managed to find a group of devoted regulars who made the visits worth while. Talvin is a less frequent visitor.

 

I think the escorts who post regularly on these discussion boards and create something of a celebrity persona for themselves can manage to attract a client base in major cities when they tour regularly.
