I would be very interested in the parameters of how they are doing the Phase I trial. Phase I trials are usually just for safety. Most trials in for illnesses in desperate need if cures or treatments are usually a combined Phase I/II so they can test both safety and efficacy at the same time.

It looks like their phase I trial involves 18 people.

All the “cure” talk is wildly premature. While their methods

and ideas are very, very book smart, we’ve all seen hundreds

of book smart trials that “should have“ worked, crash and burn.

Having said that, I do believe it’s only a mater of time now until

we have a “functional cure” for HIV. And being the first one to

cross that finish line will undoubtedly be worth billions.

I have to wonder if this and the discovery of a new strain of HIV for the first time in 19 years are related or if it’s a coincidence.

The "new" HIV strain actually has been around for decades, it's just that scientists have only recently been able to use new technologies and techniques to discern that there exists another strain of HIV that was previously unknown.

It doesn't sound like a cure though. It allows the person's own immune system to control the virus but it sounds like the host is still infected. Nonetheless getting people off antiviral drugs would be huge.
