Anyone had any experience with a Manhattan B&B that they'd care to share? Thanks.

I've stayed at a few New York B&Bs but the best by far was on Jane Street near Hudson in the Village run by a man named Richard Chandler. I don't know if he is still in the business but he was known as the "mayor" of Jane Street and he is an utterly cultured and charming man.

I got referred to him when another B&B in Chelsea was fully occupied and he took the overflow from them when he could. He has a background in New York theatre and will regale you endlessly with tales of theatre life. His B&B is really small so you usually need to make reservations in advance.

If you get to stay at his place, ask him about Marilyn Monroe and Paul Newman. He knew them both and has wonderful stories to tell about them.

Unfortunately he is of a dying breed. Once his type are gone I can't see any replacements coming along.

Can you imagine an old queen of the future (and I don't use queen as a derogatory remark) having wonderful stories to tell about.... Paris and her crowd - how about Spears, or Depp or - well you get what I mean.

I know what you mean. MM was a "femme fatale" but in the greatest sense of the expression. People usually associate her with Hollywood but she had a separate life in New York during her film career and tended to fly under the radar when she was living there. Of course she had her reasons, including her need to conceal her affair with president Kennedy. During that period she had an apartment in NYC and was able to get to Washington easier than had she been based only in Los Angeles.

Richard Chandler, whom I mentioned before, was a writer, actor and producer in plays that were mainly off-Broadway if I am correct and his house is filled with New York theatre memorabilia and books, books, books. His connection with Paul Newman was their attending the same college, (don't ask me which) and he was best man at Paul's first marriage. He became friendly with Joanne Woodward though and has lots of great stories about their time in New York when Paul was acting there.
