Hey guys,

Is Pride good for business or bad for business? Are you all marching or on the job, so to speak? Just curious.

PS Obviously pride is good for all of us every single day, but that's a different issue.

World Pride has never happened in NYC so it’s hard to forecast what the situation will be come next week. I anticipate all of next week leading up to the weekend should be good for business. The weekend could go either way.

The market in NYC is already oversaturated. You have the largest pride in NYC history (quite possible the US and the world) about to roll through, which means, more escorts will be in town. It is going to be a rat race. I say maximize on clients rolling into town early as even getting to clients come next weekend will be a struggle.

Every year I think it can't get any bigger, but then it does. Last year just the parade went on till well after 9:00 PM not to even mention all the other stuff.

I think a lot of people are unaware of what’s actually going on. New York has been chosen by InterPride to host World Pride, meaning NYC will host pride for the entire world. It happens every two years in a different location. The previous location was Madrid and the scale of the events were monumental. Think the scale of the Olympics, if not larger.

Then I am glad I'm getting out of town that weekend. It bad enough to get around when the UN is in session

I was just at Pride in Denver, and I've heard that's supposed to be the largest one in the U.S. (it is massive, but I don't know if large refers to length of parade, or span of the total festivities across town). However, I feel the Milwaukee Pride is the largest one I've seen. They hold it at the fairgrounds and it's complete with a little sky tram. Except it's contained within the area of the fairgrounds, and overall it's more of a carnival than an open street/capitol grounds parade like Denver.

I know for me, I couldn't get anyone booked for the whole weekend of Pride. Later that night, I seen a bunch of replies on a4a that didn't go anywhere. I had people contacting me Monday after the Sunday pride, those didn't go thru either. It wasn't until about 4 days after Pride, that I finally had booked in a client.

Is Pride good or bad for business? I'm inclined to say it's neither "good" or "bad" for business....but don't expect to be busy. Too many distractions, too much drinking and drug use, too many other options for sex. Pride (the years I attend) are usually for me to show off, connect with friends, and have fun. I don't even expect it as any business opportunity.

I've also been in town during D.C. Black gay pride, I was running out there. Seems all of my clients go out of town that weekend, and you're pretty much just left to your own devices if you're trying to work around that time lol.

Get out of town... pride, black party, Folsom Street are bad for business, too many escorts and drunk parties. Why paying if you can get it for free?

I won’t post pics, but there was a particular famous porn/escort walking around Folsom with his big ole 10” (or maybe it’s 11” or 12” idk) Uncut dick in broad daylight.

Perhaps one could get business indirectly by being “spotted” out. I know for me...even though I notice many Pride events are becoming more of a fashion show, nudist arts festival and showing off one’s body (even straight people are getting in on the action) than about gay “rights”, I’m just a bit reserved about even having my shirt off in an open public space lol.

I'm all for having gay pride, but most of what goes on at today's 'pride' events is nothing more than Halloween on steroids.

It is becoming more and more commercial and pretentious. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Its a little like what is happening on Fire Island. In fairness, it could also be that my perspective is changing now that I am older, who knows....

Fire Island, aside from many of the older homeowners, has turned into the worst version of itself. The Pines is now just another Chelsea, where instead of relaxing and forming real community, guys are bringing along the NYC gay caste system.

It's unfortunate.

Honestly: I don’t put too much emphasis on it. Pride events neither inspire or annoy me anymore. Some years I go, some years I don’t. Last year I was at Washington DC, Saint Pete Florida and Milwaukee Pride. This year I only did Denver (in a full on Miami outfit lol).

I think it’s good that Pride has gotten away from some of the melodramatic, past events, I really don’t like expressing or seeing people expressing tears and sadness in that type of “environment”. Gay Pride and being around large crowds, it’s better to keep emotions low. I know after the Orlando “shooting”, many Pride events were doing vigils to remember the victims. That’s nice, but it’s just too sappy for a large audience. I remember after that happened, I went to a Elvis ? impersonation show, and he did a tribute song to the Orlando shooting. It had got me all teared up and I couldn’t stop because the song was so sad lol.

Nowadays (I’m certain cities at least) it is more fun and more commercial and inclusive. That’s why nowadays it’s rarely called gay pride, it’s just called Pride. And it’s cute that companies like H&M have provided sections for gay pride attire.

When I went to Denver pride, it’s just a day to get outside, get some exercise, get my mind off the routine of sex work, and just have fun. Granted, if people go to Pride expecting more than what it is, or under estimating the potential for real drama to happen, it’s not going to be as fun as intended.

Just go with low expectations, at the same time make sure if you go with someone that the boundaries are in place. Too many people lose their sense during pride.

This year, the length of the march is very short though (map above). It starts at 26/5th, barely touches the village and then back up to Chelsea. It used to be that the March started at 42nd/5th went all the way down 5th and ended up deep into the west village. It is for security maybe? I don't think the rest of the city will be affected in terms of traffic congestion.

Thanks, excellent post. Very different, but I attend Tennis tour events for four or five days each for the same reason, usually in New York, but also Paris and Melbourne.

That’s not a parade....that’s a “stroll through Chelsea” on a Sunday afternoon.

I am quite sure that it is the map of the actual parade. The duration of which seems to be cut in 1/2 since I went to see it a few years ago. Security concerns maybe?

I was at Denver pride and I had a great time. It seemed easy to navigate and everyone was friendly. Maybe it was the legal weed.

They are friendly, but...the “legal weed” tends to affect other things: namely people’s focus on coordinating sexual advances and taking anything seriously.

When expecting an appointment and one guy after the next says, “I fell asleep”, or “I partied too hard last night”...it’s best to avoid texts in Denver after certain times. Or all times to be exact.

Thanks. But thing is, I’m not cocky. I just don’t stand for BS and nonsense. However, I’m kind of stepping back from things and being more “in the clouds” but sans the hashish...
